Aims

"...to provide for the education of young people in Christian living and in the Christian faith as received by the Anglican Church of Australia." - From The Barker College Ordinance (1978) of Sydney Diocesan Synod

Barker is an Anglican day and boarding school situated 25 kms to the north of Sydney at the junction of the North Shore and Central Coast railway lines, and just at the start of the Sydney-Newcastle Freeway. Established in 1890 it now has 2000 students in Years 3 to 12.

Vision

That Barker College be, and be recognised as, a leading Australian Christian independent school, which provides a broadly-based education and encourages young people to strive to fulfil their potential, and which is acknowledged as a centre of excellence in pastoral care and in teaching and learning.

School Philosophy

Barker College provides education within a caring, ordered Christian family environment:
  • where the Christian values of the College are maintained in an Anglican context;
  • where each member of the College community is affirmed, valued and challenged;
  • where students and staff are encouraged to strive for excellence in all areas of endeavour to the best of their ability; and
  • where young people are prepared for active and responsible participation in the community.
