Pestarella tyrrhena (Petagna, 1792)

 

Synonyms.- Callianassa laticauda Otto, 1821; Callianassa stebbingi Borradaile, 1903; Callianassa tyrrhena (Petagna, 1792)

 

Size.- Total body length about 80 mm.

 

Distribution.- From Ireland and southern North Sea to Mauritania, Canary Islands, all the Mediterranean Sea.

 

Ecology.- Digs deep burrow in sand and muddy sand, from lower shore to 22 m depth.

 

Remarks.- Legs usually pink, sometimes white as in Callianassa candida.
