Jack Johnson Joins Radiohead For APW, Jersey's Summer Music Fest

As revealed yesterday, the inaugural APW Festival -- AKA Jersey Coachella -- will indeed feature two nights of Radiohead. And one of Jack Johnson, which we predicted. (JJ's also playing Coachella and Bonnaroo; there is no escape, friends.). All Points West, which hits Liberty State Park 8/8-8/10, is touting its Radiohead coup as follows: "This marks the first time that a cutting-edge band will headline multiple nights of a major U.S. music festival." Meaning moe.down is a minor festival or moe. is not cutting-edge! Burn. Anyway, two Radiohead setlists means they'll play "Creep." Hurrah.

Confirmed line-up so far...

Two Nights Of Radiohead At All Points West

Two Nights Of Radiohead At All Points West

That according to URB, and why would URB lie to you? The inaugural APW Music & Arts Fest (brought to you by AEG Live and Goldenvoice) takes place 8/8-8/10 at Liberty State Park. That's where we saw Radiohead in August 2001 ... though this time instead of Beta Band as openers, we'll probably get Jack Johnson. All signs point to APW fitting nicely into that second leg of Thom & Co's North American tour. Get psyched, Jersey City.

Quit Your Day Job: Panther

Unless you were born with one of those silver spoons, you likely work a day job, sneaking time for your own business when not taking care of someone else's. You're not alone. Every week, Brandon Stosuy finds out how our favorite indie artists make ends meet...

Not Panthers. I already talked with them. This is Panther, the Portland duo of founder Charlie Salas-Humara (vocals, cello, guitar, keys) and 31 Knots' Joe Kelly (drums). 14kt God, the band's first album as duo, came out on Kill Rock Stars yesterday, so the timing here at Quit You Day Job is pretty close to a bullseye. Outside the band, and when not touring, Salas-Humara makes money selling art and Kelly splits time between his carpentry and bartending. One of them loves Yoko Ono.

We premiered a demo of the dubbed-out 14kt track "These Two Trees" a ways back and gave you a listen to the album's opener "Puerto Rican Jukebox." After the jump, check out a brand new remix of "Puerto Rican Jukebox" by Lips And Ribs, the solo project of 31 Knots' Jay Winebrenner. I'm also posting the album track "Violence, Diamonds" because those things always go well with lips and ribs.

New Free Blood Video - "The Royal Family"

Word broke after Lolla last year that John Pugh was permanently breaking ranks from dance-punkers !!! to focus on another act. And you didn't think an ex-!!!er would turn himself over to introspective singer-songwriter fare, right? Pugh was last seen as Chk Chk Chk roadkill, but he's alive and well in Free Blood, his dirty dance project with Madeline Davy. Here's the duo's first video, for "The Royal Family" -- sleazy cool track, and the desert/knights video illustrates why John left his old gig: his new dance partner has a little more to Offer.

Mobius Band Cover Daft Punk, Make Your Valentine's Day Mix Easier

Yes, It's almost Valentine's Day. In that spirit, we've given Mobius Band plenty of love and they've finally returned the favor, the teases. We knew the Brooklyn/Massachusetts-trio could turn a cover the moment they tackled Radiohead for OKX. Now, taking a page from Kanye's book, the lads are covering Daft Punk. Their decidedly less robotic take on "Digital Love" is part of their Love Will Reign Supreme EP, which you'll be able to download tomorrow for free at the band's site. For now, the six-song tracklist and album art, plus "Digital Love" and tour dates after the jump. As far as that photo, looks like "Digital Love" of some sort, but let's hope you spend your V-Day more excitingly than a little liquor in front of the tele.

Quit Your Day Job: Blood On The Wall

Unless you were born with one of those silver spoons, you likely work a day job, sneaking time for your own business when not taking care of someone else's. You're not alone. Every week, Brandon Stosuy finds out how our favorite indie artists make ends meet...

I won't pull punches: I love Blood On The Wall. From their self-titled debut to 2005's Awesomer and the even, yes, awesomer Liferz the trio's managed a scowling Mudhoney rock explosion that feels on the verge of tearing its seams until you notice it never had those annoying hemmed spots in the first place. A couple years ago, I carried a tiny, borrowed mini-disc recorder to their Greenpoint practice space and recorded an in-the-red (literally) version of "Junkeee...Julieee..." for a CD I was co-curating for The Believer (the tune shows up in better recorded form on Liferz). Watching them up close across a couple takes made me realize that while BOTW sound exploded, they're incredibly tight in their noisy shredding. I also realized they were great people.

A couple weeks ago I dropped bassist/vocalist Courtney Shanks a line, asking her what the band was doing for daytime work. I knew she and her brother, guitarist/vocal Brad, used to run a store called Rejoice, and that they might have some new enterprises. Turns out drummer Miggie Littleton -- the only member left in NYC -- sells records on the streets of Brooklyn, Brad's doing double duty between a record store and bar in Kansas, and Courtney's selling clothes at Built By Wendy in Los Angeles.

As far as a soundtrack, we posted Liferz roaring opener "Hibernation" some time ago. And I noticed RCRD LBL has the bratty Brad-fronted squealer "Sorry Sorry Sarah." For a sweet change of pace, take a listen to the chilled Courtney-sung "Lightning Song" after the Q&A.;

New Citay - "Eye On The Dollar"

We've been enjoying the smooth psychedelics of San Francisco pop-rock troupe Citay's sophomore album Little Kingdom. As you can tell in the photo below, there are quite a few people lending their hands to the '70s redolent harmonies (a number of "ooh"'s and "ahhh"'s) and pastoral, at times Floydian compositional sense, creating a deeply lush but airy sound. Grab an extra shaker, Popol Vuh t-shirt, and breeze into "Eye On The Dollar" after the jump.

New Marissa Nadler Video - "Mexican Summer"

We like Marissa Nadler's tendency to put other ladies in her videos. Very Warholian. If the look and feel of "Mexican Summer" remind you of the duskier "Bird On Your Grave" vid that's because this languid, sun-downing love story was also directed by the Portuguese artist Joana Linda. She's not the star this time, though: It's Ana Moreira who weeps over a lollipop, an empty swing, and a lonesome horse, but mostly sits in front of a window dreaming Carloto Cotta's face a million times. And then they kiss. But it takes a while.

Exactly like a Mexican summer we had one year. If you want to see Marissa herself, she has a number of upcoming live shows, mostly of the European sort. The full list after the jump.
