Marathoner Wesley Ng’etich has been killed in the post-elections violence.
He is the third athlete to die after Mr Lucas Sang and another who was not identified two weeks ago. The two died in Eldoret.
According to the Mr Ng’etich’s manager, Mr Hussein Makke, the 34-year-old athlete was shot in the chest with an arrow on Sunday night during fighting in his Trans Mara home.
Mr Makke got the news from his on-site manager, Mr Francis Kamau.
Unable to get back
Mr Kamau said Mr Ng’etich left their Essmi camp in Nyahururu before Christmas and had been unable to get back to training as he was held up in Narok.
South Rift Athletics Kenya official Kimutai Ng’etich expressed sorrow over the news, saying it had robbed the region of potential talent.
Athletics Kenya chairman Isaiah Kiplagat said he had heard about the athlete’s death, but was yet to establish how it happened.
Mr Ng’etich had opted out of the Chang’s Rock ‘N’ Roll Arizona Marathon in Phoenix, in the United States two weeks ago because he could not travel out of Nairobi.
He set his personal best time of 2:12:10 when he finished second at the Chevron Houston Marathon in 2006 and was also a two-time champion of Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth, Minnesota.
