December 2007.

North Shore City Community Services and Parks Committee has approved that a 9m height building for the Birkenhead Library & Civic Centre be progressed to preliminary design.

The Architecture Office is working on the design which will be limited to a prescribed envelope on the site as decreed by the Environmental Court. The building will be larger than the demolished library and council services offices will include Plunket and Citizens Advice facilities plus community meeting space.

It is expected that a detailed design will be ready to present to the North Shore City Council early in 2008. Community consultation will also take place early in the New Year.
