Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse
Tune:  Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes

Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse - that's the way!
Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse - that's the way!
That's the way we'll make a brighter day.
Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse - that's the way!
Trash is Blowing All Around
Tune:  London Bridge

Tras
h is blowing all around,
 All around, all around,
Trash is blowing all around
All around the town.

Let's get busy and pick it up,
Pick it up, pick it up.
Let's get busy and pick it up,
All around the town.

Get a trash bag and put it in,
Put it in, put it in.
Get a trash bag and put it in,
All around the town.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Tune:  Itsy Bitsy Spider

Reduce, reuse, recycle - words that we all know.
We have to save our planet so we can live and grow.
We might be only children, but we will try, you'll see.
And we will save the planet - it starts with you and me!

  • Litter is Garbage
Tune: The Wheels on the Bus

    Litter is garbage that
    wasn't put away,
    Wasn't put away,
    Wasn't put away,
    Litter is garbage that
    wasn't put away,
    In the garbage can.

    I put my garbage in
    the garbage can,
    The garbage can,
    The garbage can,
    I put my garbage in
    the garbage can,
    I'm not a litterbug.

    Activities

    Earth Day Signs

Have the children decorate a paper plate to resemble themselves.  Also, trace and cut out their handprints.  Through interactive writing, write sentences on 12x5 paper that would make the earth happy.
(Don't litter.   Plant flowers.  Don't cut down trees.)

Tape the paper plate head on the top center of the 12x5 paper and then tape the hands at either end.  Hang them up in the hallway to celebrate Earth Day!
    My Favorite Place on Earth

    Materials:

    magazines
    rubber stamps
    stamp pad
    construction paper
    scissors
    glue
    markers,  colored pencils, or crayons

Have children look through magazines and cut out a nature picture a favorite place.  Glue onto construction paper.  Use stamps to make a  border on the edge of the paper.  Have the children  write or dictate a sentence that tells why that is their favorite place.

    Clean Up!

To celebrate Earth Day take your class outside to clean up the earth.  I give each child a pair of vinyl gloves and a (recycled) shopping bag.  We head out to the playground and pick up the trash.

    Classroom Recyclers

Introduce recycling to your students by creating a recycling box for paper in the classroom.  Have the children put scrap paper in the box and create projects with it in the art center.
