The Columbia Journalism Review is recognized
throughout the world as America's premiere media monitora
watchdog of the press in all its forms, from newspapers and magazines
to radio, television, and cable to the wire services and the Web.
Founded in 1961 under the auspices of Columbia University's Graduate
School of Journalism, CJR examines not only day-to-day press
performance but also the many forcespolitical, economic, technological,
social, legal, and morethat affect that performance for better
or worse. The magazine, which

and commentary, always aimed at its basic goal:

Writers' Guidelines
CJR accepts unsolicited queries. They can be submitted through
email or regular mail. Include a resume and a brief summary of your
journalism experience and qualification to write the piece. It helps
to demonstrate a familiarity with the magazine and its sections,
as well as anything we have written about the subject in the past.
We publish six times a year, and lead time for a piece is typically
at least a month. In addition to First North American Rights, we
purchase the right to publish articles on our Web site. Articles
are included in academic and research databases. We pay a kill fee
of half the agreed upon amount if the piece is delivered satisfactorily
and then not used.
