Team GB Mountain Bike Olympic Qualification

16 Jan 2008

The International Cycling Union (UCI) has confirmed to the British Olympic Association that Team GB has qualified two quota places for the men’s mountain bike competition at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.

The quota places were claimed following the publication of the UCI’s mountain bike rankings on 31st December 2007 which placed Great Britain in 13th position in the men’s rankings. According to the Olympic qualification criteria, a nation ranked in positions 6th to 13th receives two quota places for the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Britain’s women were ranked narrowly outside the top-18 cut off in 22nd position, and therefore will not be represented at the 2008 Olympic Games.
