Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei

Minister For Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation And NEPAD

Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei, M.P., was appointed as the Minister for Foreign Affairs on 31st July, 2007.  Prior to his current appointment, Hon. Osei-Adjei served as a Deputy Minister for the period April 2003 to July 2007.  He also served as a Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry from March 2001 to April 2003.

During the course of his political career, Hon. Osei-Adjei has represented Ghana at several international meetings and conferences, including those of the United Nations; the Non-Aligned Movement; the African, Caribbean and Pacific group; the Afro-Asia Strategic Partnership Meetings; and the Community of Saharan States (CEN-SAD).

As a Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Osei-Adjei has oversight for the management of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its Missions abroad, and initiated several administrative reforms that have contributed to the better functioning of the Ministry and its Missions.

Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei began his active political career in 1992 when he was elected as a parliamentary candidate of the New Patriotic Party.  He was also a member of the Young Executives’ Forum of the New Patriotic Party and now serves as a member of the NPP National Council.

Because of his party’s boycott of the parliamentary elections of 1992, Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei was unable to serve the people of Ejisu-Juaben during the first Parliament of the Forum Republic.  However, in December on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party as the Member of Parliament for Ejisu-Juaben a parliamentary seat that he retained in both elections of 2000 and 2004.

In his first term in Parliament, Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei served as the Deputy Ranking Member for Trade, Industry and Tourism and also served on the House Committee on Communication and Appointments.  He currently serves on the House Committee on Finance, Communications and Appointment.

Before his current political career, Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei served in various private sector capacities.

From 1979 to 1982 he was the Financial Accountant with Overseas Trading Company Limited of the United Kingdom in 1982, he moved on to Reed Consultancy Services of London, United Kingdom, where he served as a Financial Analyst.

Desiring to establish himself as an entrepreneur, he incorporated OZZE Export Limited in the United Kingdom in 1989 and run the business till 1990 when he relocated to Ghana.  In Ghana, he established OZZE (Ghana) Limited in Accra – a company which dealt in the distribution of LPGs and home appliances.

Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei trained as an accountant and holds the Party IV certification of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.  He also holds a Master of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of De Montford, Leicester, UK.

Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei has studied in several institutions both in Ghana and abroad.  These include the Institute of Professional Studies, Ghana (1969-1971); Waltham Forest College, UK (1973-1974); and the University of De Montford, Leicester, UK (1995).

Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei was born in Kumasi on 27 December, 1949.  He is married with seven children and, for his hobby, enjoys sports and listening to music.
