 Mike Wahle-G- Panthers Feb. 12 - 9:42 pm et

Free agent G Mike Wahle will reportedly meet with the Seahawks on Wednesday.
Wahle, 30, was cut Monday in a cap-related move. Seattle is going with a power running game this year, and the 6'6/304-pound vet may be a solid fit. Wahle was drafted by Green Bay during Mike Holmgren's tenure there.

 Jonathan Ogden-T- Ravens Feb. 12 - 8:54 pm et

Ravens coach John Harbaugh says he thinks Jonathan Ogden is "right on the fence" about retiring or playing in 2008.
"He's torn," Harbaugh says. "He's trying to figure out what he wants to do, and he's going to take his time." The Ravens would certainly like to have Ogden back, but he indicated last month that he's leaning towards retirement.
 Steve McNair-QB- Ravens Feb. 12 - 8:50 pm et

Coach John Harbaugh says the Ravens' QB position will be "competitive" this offseason, and that it "has yet to be determined."
The Ravens haven't made it clear yet what they plan to do with Steve McNair and his $7.35 million cap charge, but they'll need space to fit in Terrell Suggs' $8.1 million franchise number. Harbaugh does anticipate McNair, who's recovering from shoulder surgery, being "motivated" and healthy for 2008.
 Alan Faneca-G- Steelers Feb. 12 - 7:36 pm et

The Bears have reportedly been "doing their homework" on free agent to be Alan Faneca.
Chicago has a need at guard and would preferably use Terrence Metcalf, who took over for Ruben Brown late in 2007, as a sixth lineman. Brown is about as certain to depart the Bears as Faneca is to leave the Steel City.

 Marty Booker-WR- Dolphins Feb. 12 - 7:11 pm et

The Bears have reportedly been contacted about free agent Marty Booker.
It sounds like Booker's agent is just sending out feelers, but if the Bears want him, they can have him before the free agency period begins because he was already cut. Chicago could view Booker as help if free agent Bernard Berrian departs, although that would be a significant drop off in ability.

 Patriots Defense-C- Patriots Feb. 12 - 6:55 pm et

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and Sen. Arlen Specter will meet Wednesday to discuss the Patriots' Spygate scandal.
Specter wants answers as to why Goodell destroyed tapes and notes from the case. Goodell says it's because he didn't want more leaked after it turned out FOXSports' Jay Glazer got ahold of one of the videos.
 Justin Smiley-G- 49ers Feb. 12 - 6:44 pm et

The 49ers are not expected to make an effort to retain impending free agent G Justin Smiley.
GM Scot McCloughan doesn't believe in paying guards big bucks. Smiley's stock would've been a lot higher had he not torn his labrum last season.
 Isaac Sopoaga-DL- 49ers Feb. 12 - 6:41 pm et

49ers NT Isaac Sopoaga and DE Marques Douglas are expected to hit the free agent market on February 29.
The 49ers would like to have both back, but Sopoaga will want to check his value after his best season yet. At 6'2/332, he'll be attractive to several 3-4 teams. Douglas and San Francisco are said to be far apart in negotiations.

 Carlton Brewster-WR- Broncos Feb. 12 - 6:22 pm et

Broncos waived WR Carlton Brewster and signed LB William Kershaw.
Brewster signed a futures deal only a month ago, so he may have said something wrong to get axed so quickly. Kershaw, a well built inside linebacker out of Maryland, will try to earn a roster spot behind D.J. Williams.

 Brandon Archer-LB- Broncos Feb. 12 - 6:17 pm et

Broncos claimed LB Brandon Archer off waivers from the Colts.
Archer, who went undrafted in '07 out of K-State, adds depth to a thin position in Denver. The 6'0/239-pounder's future is likely only as a special teamer.

 Rams Offense-TM- Rams Feb. 12 - 4:43 pm et

Rams hired Terry Shea as quarterbacks coach.
Shea also worked under Al Saunders in Kansas City, when they ushered Trent Green through his best years. The Rams have beefed up their staff overall, which is good news for Marc Bulger and the rest of the passing game.
 Martin Gramatica-K- Saints Feb. 12 - 4:01 pm et

Saints re-signed K Martin Gramatica to a one-year contract.
He'll get a base salary of $730,000 in 2008. Gramatica was with the Saints for the final three games of last season and made all five of his field goal attempts, including two kicks of over 40 yards and one of over 50. He should have a leg up on beating out Olindo Mare for the starting job.

 Jeff Feagles-P- Giants Feb. 12 - 12:27 pm et

Jeff Feagles will continue to punt in 2008, signing a two-year deal with the Giants.
With Lawrence Tynes re-upping and LSs Jay Alford and Zak DeOssie going into their second years, the Giants' specialists will stay intact. Feagles was 30th in net punting last year, but did well pinning opponents inside the 20.

 Kevin O'Connell-QB- Player Feb. 12 - 12:11 pm et

San Diego State QB Kevin O'Connell is currently training with position guru Rod Dowhower and Charlie Frye in preparation for the NFL Combine.
Like Trent Edwards last year, O'Connell could improve his stock immensely at the Combine because he'll likely test well in all areas. We're not sure what to think about him working with Frye, but Dowhower was a head coach in the NFL in the mid-1980s and QBs coach during Joe Gibbs' first Redskins stint.
 Dwight Smith-DB- Vikings Feb. 12 - 11:49 am et

Vikings FS Dwight Smith had his misdemeanor charge of marijuana possession dropped Tuesday in a Minneapolis court.
Smith has a past of off-field problems and could've faced a suspension had he not been found innocent, though he may still get fined. He seems likely to be back as a starter in 2008 after making 51 tackles and four INTS last year.
 Marques Colston-WR- Saints Feb. 12 - 11:21 am et

Marques Colston wants a long-term contract from the Saints.
Colston enters a contract year in 2008, with a salary of just $445,000. He caught 98 passes for 1,202 yards and 11 TDs last season, but New Orleans isn't obligated to pay him because he'll be a restricted free agent in 2009.
 Jamal Lewis-RB- Browns Feb. 12 - 11:06 am et

The Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that free agent Jamal Lewis wants "at least" a three-year contract. The Browns are offering two years.
The early word was that Lewis wouldn't demand a long-term deal. The Browns may look to the draft or a free agent like Michael Turner, who's very familiar with OC Rob Chudzinski's offense, if Lewis doesn't change his mind.

 Bubba Franks-TE- Packers Feb. 12 - 10:59 am et

The Packers are expected to ask TE Bubba Franks to take a cut in pay.
He was an effective blocker when healthy in 2008, but chronic knee issues and a $3 million salary for 2008 have him on the bubble. Green Bay figures to decide Franks' future before March 1, when he's due a $500,000 bonus.
 Corey Williams-DL- Packers Feb. 12 - 10:54 am et

Packers GM Ted Thompson says contract talks with free agent DT Corey Williams have been "ongoing."
Thompson won't rule out franchising Williams, but that would cost Green Bay $6.232 million. The penetrating tackle has 14 sacks over his past two seasons. The Pack is deep enough at the position that he'll likely be let go.
 Ian Gold-LB- Broncos Feb. 12 - 10:36 am et

The Broncos have reportedly been shopping WLB Ian Gold.
Gold, due $3.25 million in 2008, will more likely be cut. He's been a liability against the run and struggled with nagging injuries the past two seasons.
