January 2005

Well the 2005 bowhunting season is upon us.  Let's start with cleaning the shop.  That may take all season.  Hehehe

Here's my bench after a month or 6 of neglect!

And here's the project pile

Here's all the bows I want to finish in the next month or two.  Plus I need to start a couple more.

L-R:  Emily's Bow, BBO Static, Takedown osage flatbow, sinew and snake osage, yew ELB, MOJam Commemorative (grasscarp backed, mesquite tipped osage selfbow), osage sinew pony bow.

Here's the pile of primo osage and even some hickory and elm that I want to work through in the near future.  Some is trade wood, some is sale wood, and some is for new bows.  One of them is osage selfbow for Calvin "Madpigslayer" Peters up in Canada.

Otto's Bow (Mark not Steve)

Here's my first project.  Just a straight osage selfbow.

This thing has been hanging in exactly this position, untouched for 3 months!

December 27, 2004 (OK so it's not 2005 yet, sue me)

Here she is at brace

Drawn to 22".  She weighs about 50# at that draw.  I'm shooting for 55# at 27".
Tiller is not horrible here but that right (lower) limb needs to catch up with the left (upper) a bit.  There's a little stiff spot at the dip in the upper limb too.  We'll deal with both a little bit now witht he rasp.

That right limb is a bit stubborn but we'll move from the rasp to the scraper so we don't turn this 55# bow into a 45#er :)
The upper limb looks pretty nice but still a bit stiff.

Getting closer now.  The upper lmb is longer by 1.5" so it won't have quite the arc.  Still, it is stiff in the midlimb.  I'll give her a
few scrapes there and 10 along the length of the lower and we'll see where we are.

Here she is bent to 26".  I'm right at 55# there.  Tiller is not bad.  I'm going to scrape her all out and see where I am and
then fine tiller a bit after shooting her for a while.
