There are 25 autonomous "Gu" districts in Seoul, divided into 522 administrative sub-units of "Dong." Previously under the control of the Seoul Metropolitan government, "Gu" executes both autonomous administrative functions and those delegated by the City as a self-governing local administrative unit. "Dong" offices provide close, first-hand services for the residents.
