Highland Pony Show (Thursday) – the Blair Castle Highland Pony Show is a prestigious occasion in the world of Scotland’s native Highlands. There are classes both in-hand and under saddle, including Working Hunter Pony classes. A highlight for spectators is the Working Harness class, where ponies and handlers are turned out in traditional working attire for various jobs such as deer stalking or logging.
Hunter Show (Thursday) – the Blair Castle Hunter Show has ridden Hunter, Riding Horse and Side-Saddle classes. Working Hunter classes include the finals of two prestigious BHS series’, as well as the Blair Castle Tullibardine Contractors Open Working Hunter Pony Championships.
NPS Scotland Finals (Friday) – the National Pony Society Scotland Finals are the highlight of the season for competitors, with Ridden and Working Hunter Pony Championships for native breeds, plus in-hand classes for native youngstock, Riding Ponies and Hunter Ponies.
BSJA Show Jumping (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) – the BSJA classes, up to 1.30m, attract some of Scotland’s leading show jumpers. The Leading Rider Award, a points accumulator run over the three days of competition, has been won for the past three years by Douglas Duffin.
Pony Club Mounted Games (Saturday) – the Pony Club Mounted Games provide fantastic spectator sport and a great introduction to competing at a major event for the young participants. Thrills and spills aplenty are guaranteed as the Pony Clubbers take part in all sorts of relays.
Ridden Clydesdale Championship (Sunday) - Clydesdales, the workhorses of the past, are fast becoming popular as riding horses. Horses have to qualify at one of several shows around the country throughout the summer to compete in the Finals here at Blair.
Blair Castle Scottish Ex Racers Championship Show (Sunday) - New for 2008, these classes are for racehorses that have been retrained as riding horses. |
