Tea Cozy

Warm up with a hot cup of tea, and a tea
cozy that will keep your water nice and hot.

An average teapot holds six cups of water.  This tea cozy will fit most 6-cup pots.

For this project you will need:

3/8 yard of quilted fabric
1 yard of trim
Embroidery design from Tea Time department.
Sew a teatime design on quilted fabric.  The quilted fabric will act as insulation for your teapot.  For best design definition, hoop the fabric with one piece of cutaway stabilizer.
Mark a rectangle around the design that is 15 inches wide by 12 inches tall.  This will make a finished tea cozy that is 14 inches wide by 11 inches tall.
Use a round saucer or cover to round off the top corners.
Cut out the front of the cozy.  Using the front as a pattern, cut out the back piece.
Pin the trim along the sides and top of the back piece.  Be sure to end the trim about 1 1/2 inches from the bottom edge of the cozy.  This will make hemming easier, and eliminate any extra bulk in the hem.
Using a zipper foot, and your needle in the left position, sew around the three trimmed sides of the cozy.  If you are using piping or trim, make sure to sew as closely as possible to the cord.
Now, hem the bottom of the cozy.
You are now ready to enjoy a hot cup of tea with a beautiful tea cozy!  You can use similar designs to decorate napkins or fingertip towels for a wonderful tea set.
