God Incarnate…Electronically

The iPhone aka “The Jesus Phone” officially dropped admist a media frenzy. I won’t even waste time linking to the videos because you’ve seen the reports of campouts & all that jazz.

Can you really talk to Jesus via these things?

This ad shows that it’s amazingly capable of anything.

Shit, even the mayor of Philly was in line for one, murder rate be damned. (Question - Couldn’t you have an assistant wait for you? I mean…the mayor? Take one of the interns you’re bonin’ and let that bird stand for you.)

People are both hyping it for what it will/won’t do and that was before it even released. Whether it lives up to the hype or not, the future is upon us. Hopefully that won’t include the outrageous pricing of these joints, but moreso that Steve Jobs et al will continue to push the technological envelope. I’m a stalwart against change but I think we can all agree that the iPod was one of the greatest inventions of the past quarter century easily. Even if it’s not “the best” mp3 player out, their marketing of it was excellent & so much that it caught on and now mp3 players of various capabilities & price ranges are on the market. Expect this phone to possibly change the script for what other cell manufacturers present to us.

Me, myself & I will be stickin with my Crackberry because it fits my needs but I can see where this phone is the shit. If I was a college student, who this phone is prolly ideal for…well, I prolly wouldn’t have six bills to drop on this shit. But it’d definitely pique my interest with it’s ill kid slick design and to think I could have my iPod stacked with music & my phone in one gadget & in my pocket on my way to and ‘fro classes. I bet some college kids are wishing that they hadn’t quit that job @ the Apple store because “school was out and my manager was a dick anyways.” Why? Apple employees got the phone for free. :eek x 2.

My personal opinion - Never cop something when it first drops….a.) After the initial release, prices will drop or at least better offers will start to appear. Six hun? Sorry, my disposable income doesn’t stretch that far lol…

b.) Bugs, kinks, fixes & complaints…let them be fixed first. First models are bound to suck. And the list of features it doesn’t give have already been well harped upon (more here). As well, neither AT&T or Asurion will be offering insurance for cell-phone-breakers like myself. Word to Verizon, I’ve got about five or six broken Treos in the closet downstairs.

However, all of this will eventually lead to…

c.) Added features coming. These are the things that the average consumer should be looking out for because it’s going to determine if this shit is actually a good, reliable *gasp*phone*gasp*.

Either way, expect to see the cell phone game continue to grow even more over the coming years as a result of this mickey fickey.

Now, with all that said, did anyone here actually cop?

Other Randomness…

-Kanye’s gonna be on “60 Minutes” (clip)…but watchin the reporter play pocket pool/bouncin & head-bobbin and saying “a which beat?”…I’m thinkin CBS sent the wrong reporter.

-VH1 has plans to relive the making of Reasonable Doubt. With that, I believe we can officially say VH1 > BET & MTV.

Young Buck - “U Ain’t Goin Nowhere” Video

Little bit different than the average vid. Very nicely done for a song that’s simple enough to catch some radio spins…I mean because in today’s age, you gotta have a “she’s my main chick or bird on the side” song, no?

-Akon’s “Sorry, Blame It On Me” might be the cheesiest public apology since Puff put out “I’ll Be Missing You” to assuage his guilt for killing B.I.G…but it still grabbed my ear. Hearing a man sing while sarcastically apologizing for twerkin that young chick, lettin down Gwen Stefani, havin three wives…quite entertaining lol.

-Iranian Policewomen…yeah.

After listening to DTP’s “Celebrity Chick” (Produced By Parafino) and actually liking it…and hearing Chingy have the first verse and being intro’d and referred to as “my aggin Ching-a-ling” by Luda…does this mean, Chingy swallowed his pride after bad-mouthing the DTP camp previously?

-“Adios” = Down South, “let me finish this drank & then go shoot a aggin in the parking lot” hype music, word to Pac-Man Jones….and I love it.

The wang of the beat and lines like “my momma dark, my daddy dark/so where you thank I get it from…“…”antisocial in this bitch so keep movin if you don’t know us/smallest aggin in the club, but I’m ready for Shaq size…“.. my shoulders rock volunteerily.

And, “adios” has now been incorporated into my daily vocab.

-While we’re @ it…“Pipe Her Down” > “Wipe Me Down”.

“Head. Titties. Ass. Pussy.”…vulgar ignorance @ it’s best. Thanks K.

-And the only track more grotesquely beautiful might be this Necro, “Who’s Your Daddy?“. Discussing queefs on a track lol? What’s the sample though? Feels as if I’ve heard it in a car or condom commercial.

United State Of Hip Hop - Review Of Nelson George’s Hip Hop America

Posted by Gotty™ @ 11:04 am

Words by Ian M.

Nelson George’s Hip Hop America starts off so promising. I grabbed it off of my comrade’s bookshelf the other day – it’s old, 1998 – and ran through it in a couple days. The book opens describing a scene popular in the 1930s rural South. It’s the same scene from Ellison’s Invisible Man – a battle royale where young black kids, blindfolded, punch each others’ brains in to the delight of white patrons. George writes: “At certain moments, when hip hop is at its most tragically comic, I can imagine it as a ’90s battle royal.” George doesn’t parse words. ( Want more? )
