Louis XIV
Slick Dogs & Ponies
San Diego's Louis XIV surfaced in 2005 with The Best Little Secrets Are Kept, an album dripping with sexual innuendo, Sticky Fingers-era Rolling Stones minimalism, and vintage style.
After two years of touring with bands like The Killers, She Wants Revenge, and many more, Louis XIV exiled themselves into the studio to begin work on their latest effort, Slick Dogs and Ponies.
The album, which was released in September of 2007, finds the band constructing opulent pop songs reminiscent of '70s prog-rock outfits Electric Light Orchestra and Queen. Despite Slick Dogs and Ponies' decadence, nothing feels overproduced or unnecessary; instead, we find a band learning from its past and moving forward into its own unique future.
Louis XIV sat down with MP3.com downstairs at the Warfield in San Francisco to shed light not only on Slick Dogs and Ponies, but also their recording process, touring with The Editors and Hot Hot Heat, and pacing oneself within the rock-and-roll lifestyle.
