Chris Benoit vs. Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H
World Heavyweight Championship
Chris Benoit had been waiting 18 years to finally get a shot at the World Championship. He certainly earned his shot when he defeated 29 other Superstars at the Royal Rumble. Despite entering at the unenviable No. 1 position, Benoit outlasted every other Superstar and tossed out Big Show to win the match and a shot at either the WWE or World Heavyweight Championship.
The then SmackDown! Superstar decided to jump ship to the RAW brand to face Triple H for the World Heavyweight Championship. Shawn Michaels interrupted the contract signing, though, and hit Benoit with the Sweet Chin Music. With Benoit knocked out, Michaels signed the contract. General Manager Eric Bischoff settled the controversy and made the match a Triple Threat Match.
Benoit, Michaels and Triple H absolutely destroyed each other in the final match of WrestleMania XX. Michaels was a bloody mess, as Triple H looked ready to lock in the Pedigree on Benoit. Benoit somehow reversed it into the Crippler Crossface, and with Michaels out on the floor, Triple H tapped out due to the excruciating pain. Chris Benoit celebrated with his friend WWE Champion Eddie Guerrero and his family in the middle of the ring as confetti flew all over Madison Square Garden.
