Danger, Will vs. Robinsons
It looks like a big weekend at the box-office, with Steve Mason at Fantasy Moguls predicting a $43 million haul for the Will Ferrell sports comedy "Blades of Glory,'' which has been getting mixed reviews, including a thumbs down from Kyle. Steve has the Disney 'toon "Meet the Robinsons,'' (I gave it three stars) in second place with a strong $27.1 million, but the Hollywood Reporter says some Tinseltown insiders think it could take the weekend with as much as $40 million for three days. The weekend's other wide opener, "Lookout,'' a thriller starring the talented Joseph Gordon-Levitt, got 2 stars from the redheaded tough guy in the next quad and is expected to finish out of the top 10. And at the other end of the scale, producer Ted Hope is offering refunds to anyone who isn't pleased with "The Hawk is Dying,'' a small but challenging film with Paul Giamatti that opens today at Cinema Village, Anthony Kaufman writes at Indiewire. The film was murdered by critics when it premiered at Sundance last year, but I rated it 2.5 stars -- not an easy film to watch and far from a perfect one, but a lot more ambitious and interesting than most of what's out there.Posted by Lou Lumenick on March 30, 2007 08:32 AM
