'Blair Witch Project' Meets 9/11
Are some people buying tickets for "Transformers'' not to see the dopey Michael Bay flick, but for the cool-looking, creepily 9/11-evoking trailer that precedes it? Variety reports today that Paramount has asked You Tube to take down the trailer for the mystery-shrouded J.J. Abrams-produced sci-fi flick, which is set to open Jan. 18. But it's still available (in all its camcordered glory) at sites like First Showing, at least as of this writing, along with a detailed description of the action. Shot with a "Blair Witch''-style shakycam, it shows revelers celebrating at a downtown Manhattan birthday party -- until Midtown comes under flaming attack by unidentified invaders. Chaos ensues, and the decapitated head of the Statue of Liberty is seen careening down a street. The only recognizable face is Roma Torre of NY1, who has a cameo as herself. The still untitled flick, which Variety says is code-named "Cloverfield,'' is directed by "Felicity'' co-creator Matt Reeves and written by Drew Godard, who worked with Abrams on "Lost.''Posted by Lou Lumenick on July 6, 2007 11:23 AM
