Box Office: Who Needs Dave and Jay?
Hollywood had another monster weekend without a single piece of talent warming a late-night host's couch. Business was up 33 percent from the same weekend a year ago and yearly ticket sales have edged up 1.47 percent from the same point in 2006 after a rocky fall season, Exhibitor Relations says. "National Treasure: Book of Secrets'' is Nicolas Cage's second monster opening of the year with an estimated $45.5 million over three days, around $200,000 better than "Ghost Rider'' Holdovers "I Am Legend'' dropped 56 percent to $34.2 million and "Alvin in the Chipmunks'' held extremely well at $29 million. "Charlie Wilson's War'' edged fellow newcomer and Best Picture aspirant "Sweeney Todd'' out of fourth place with $9.6 million to $9.3 million, but "Charlie'' has to be rated a disappointment at best because it was playing on twice as many screens as the Johnny Depp musical. "P.S. I Love You'' was deader than Gerard Butler's character with $6.5 million while the Judd Apatow-produced "Walk Hard'' was even more DOA in eighth place (behind the month-old "Enchanted'') at $4.1 million. "The Golden Compass'' plummeted another 55 percent to ninth place and $3.9 million for its third weekend, losing 575 screens and no doubt lots more next Tuesday, when three more titles open in wide release -- a record eight new titles for the holiday weekend. "Juno'' impregnated the top 10 with $3.9 million from only 304 screens and the second-best per-theater average out there, after "National Treasure.'' Coming in at No. 11 and No. 12 were a pair of other Best Picture hopefuls, "Atonement'' at $1.9 million and "No Country for Old Men'' at $1.6 million.Posted by Lou Lumenick on December 23, 2007 12:24 PM

I also adored P.S. I Love You and not just because of Gerry Butler (who was wonderful), but all the other cast. I am sick of Hillary being trashed by the critics. She was great in the role and showed she could hold her own in a romantic part.
This movie will be around and enjoyed on DVD and on TV long after the others have been forgotten, because there hasn't been a good romance in a long time. And Gerry Butler keeps getting so much more appreciated that women the world over will want to own every movie he ever made.
Any movie than can make you laugh and cry at the same time is worth a lot in my book.

After reading the reviews for P.S. I Love You I dreaded walking into the theater to see this flick but was surprised that I thourghly enjoyed the film. All the men in the film were a joy to watch and it was great to see Mr. Butler without a beard.

Forget the snarky reviews of P.S. I Love You and go see it. Butler is endearing, Swank holds her own, and the rest of the cast performs well. I know you will laugh and maybe cry and you will come out of the movie glad that you ignored the critics. Did I mention Gerry Butler sings, does a cute strip-tease and is in full-on adorable mode? His 'Gerry' is the glue that holds the picture together and every time he is on screen, his charm and sexiness and humor shine through.
