I am weak.

Press Play.

I made a choice that I regret. Now what I see, is what I get.

Consumer Whore is I

In the last few weeks, I've bought...

5 x games
6 x books
3 x movies
1 x Mp3 player/usb card
1 x headphones
1 x PSP
1 x 2gb Pro Duo card

The funny thing is, I began this month saying to myself, "I'm not going to spend money on anything I don't need."

My plan was to save a good amount of money and upgrade the T.V. in my room.

It all began so simply.

Oh, look, preorder bonuses with this game... limited supply. Buy.

Oh... a new volume of the Twelve Kingdoms and Kino no Tabi is finally out? Well, I might as well buy the other books I've been wanting too while I'm at it to save on shipping. Buy.

Oh... I got this coupon in my mail for $20 off $80+ purchase... mind as well buy that PSP I've been wanting. Buy.

Oh... look at this awesome patapon poster, and the game is only $19.99 new? What a steal. I should buy Crisis Core and Wild Arms too so I have something to play on the PSP too. Buy.

Oh... I'd need some memory... mind as well buy this pro duo card and some headphones to get some good sound going for my DS and PSP. Buy.

Oh... I mind as well buy a small MP3 player so I can carry it with me where ever I go to use with the awesome new headphones. It doubles as a usb storage device for plug and use storage? Nice. Buy.

Oh... wait. Now I'm broke.

Damn it.

Why do I suck so badly with money!!!

Every time I see a good deal, I tend to spurge and go for it even though it's not something that I really wanted in the first place. Put that together with the fact that I frequent many "deals" websites like Cheap Ass Gamer, Slickdeals, Techbargines and Fatwallet daily and you've got a recipe for one broke-ass man with a lot of crap he doesn't need.

That's it though. I won't spend any more money on things I don't really really really want or need for the rest of the month!

Seriously!

I'm super cereal here!!

Vicariously

A few days ago, I got the chance to watch this documentary.

"Taxi to the Dark Side is an Academy Award winning 2007 documentary film directed by American filmmaker Alex Gibney, and produced by Eva Orner and Susannah Shipman.

The film focuses around the controversial death in custody of an Afghan taxi driver named Dilawar. Dilawar was beaten to death by American soldiers while being held in extrajudicial detention at the Bagram Air Base.

Taxi to the Dark Side also goes on to examine America's policy on torture and interrogation in general, specifically the CIA's use of torture and their research into sensory deprivation. There is description of the opposition to the use of torture from its political and military opponents, as well as the defence of such methods; the attempts by Congress to uphold the standards of the Geneva Convention forbidding torture; and the popularisation of the use of torture techniques in shows such as 24.

The film is said to be the first film to contain images taken within Bagram Air Base."

- Taken from Wikipedia

It was a movie that defined the term "thought-provoking" to the very core. Although the information that that they give you should be taken with a spoonful of salt, the moral issues that they raise should be taken to heart without question.

The disturbing video recordings and pictures depicting violence and humiliation are definitely not for the faint of heart but I feel it that from time to time we must put aside our shield of ignorance and apathy and behold that which is reality. As much as it might hurt us emotionally, I believe it to be our duty as citizens- no, as human beings to be aware of what's going on to the fellow man around us.

It's true. It's difficult to look directly at something that you don't want to see. Something that may show that the beliefs and ideals you once held were a fallacy. It's only natural to want to protect your reality, but it's in our ability to adapt and change that our greatest gift lies.

Some people might say that changing your views and ideals as you grow older with more experiences is being a hypocrite or a flip-flop but I say that people who keep their views and ideals the same when they know something is wrong with them is just being stubborn and nothing more.

I urge you to watch this documentary if you are able and draw your own conclusions.

Me? My views haven't changed much but my thoughts and fellings that hatred only begets more hatred has been brought back into the spotlight.

How I long to sleep tight wrapped in my soft, warm blanket of lies dreaming about everything and nothing.

Too bad... it'll be many nights before I can sleep like that again.

Random Picture

Remember kids, don't smoke and play DS at the same time.

Quote of the Week

"Those who fight to live can never topple those who live only to fight."

Next Time

By then, I should have my new shiny PSP in so I'll go into the gaming corner to talk about my toy and its library of games.

Also, this entry came earlier than usual. I'll try to make it once a week entry instead of once every one and a half/two week. Maybe... every Monday or something like that.

I could probably do that.

Probably.

Till next time....

lol, The battery life on the game gear wasnt all that bad, Atleast compared to the Sega Nomad.

It would actually start to get really hot and you have to put in new batteries every day almost. Rechargeable batteries would only last 2 hours max before dying in that thing.

But the ability to play Sega Genesis/Mega Drive games on the go was pretty sweet.

Thats a pretty accurate assessment, I can rarely claim to be bored with all the crap i buy.

someone say sega nomad?!

*wanders in carrying ac adapter monstrosity*

still use mine in my home setup, just because it save so much space compared to the old school genesis. I believe his description of genesis add-ons and adaptors was one of the only times i laughed at the AVGN.

Game Gear required 6 AA batteries right? x_x Ended up heavily using the AC and car adaptor. Even invested on the TV tuner too. Also remembered my hand cramping up numerous times thanks to the bulkness of the system.

My most played game was a Japanese import called "Dodge Danpei" which is basically a dodgeball game. That alone was worth the amount of money invested on the handheld.

Good times.

Quoted from Wiki said: ...Nomad was not power efficient and a rechargeable battery pack was offered separately for $79. This pack offered even less play time than with normal batteries and was not widely available. Rechargeable AA batteries were not recommended due to voltage problems (Ni-Cd provides 1.2V instead of the 1.5V that alkalines output, and also requires full discharging before recharging; Ni-MH AA batteries were not available at the time).

LMAO. Sega... once again before its time.

Beh...Sega's motto should be, "one step forward, two steps back"

^I lost a bidding war about a 2 weeks ago for that very (and less dusty) set up. Winning bid was $164 with cables, controllers and games for all 3.

Why... would you spend almost 200 dollars for that cancerous material growing out from the Genesis?

Given Sega CD had a handful of good games and the 32X had maybe... one good game, I don't see the point of having this setup outside of collection perfectionist reasons.

The bundle included all of the Shinobi's, Shadow Dancer, Sonic CD, Final Fight CD, The Starwars 32x game, Eternal Champions, Comic Zone and a few others....

Ask me again why i wanted it :P.

I told myself i wasnt playing over $130 for it, Do i get some credit for restraint?

Oh my god I almost laughed myself to death at all of those Nomad comments. Thank god I never owned it. Owned a game gear though I think the batteries started screaming after about two days. Had the rechargeable battery pack for that and it lasted a while, but for some odd reason there was a limited amount of times you could recharge it before it died. Lasted about a year and never got another one; oh to be a child and broke relying on your game hating mother for stuff again...don't regret it.
