Stuff Magazine ranks Abita Brew #1

Abita Springs, LA - Turbodog beer, from the Abita Brewing Company, has been ranked #1 beer made in the USA according to “Stuff” magazine, August 2005. The dark brown brew from Abita Springs was the top pick of brew reviewers in an article entitled, “Red, White and Brew”. The magazine selected the top 80 American-made beers and Turbodog was ranked number one. Stuff magazine has a circulation of 5.5 million nationally.

“We’re pleased the rest of the country will find out what the folks in Louisiana already know – Turbodog is a great beer,” says David Blossman, President of the Abita Brewing Company. “We created Turbodog as a specialty beer to celebrate the company’s fourth birthday back in 1990,” according to Blossman. “It was a huge hit and now it’s one of our five flagship brews, along with Abita Amber and Abita Light, Purple Haze and Abita Golden.”

Abita Turbodog is a dark brown ale brewed with Willamette hops and a combination of British pale, crystal and chocolate malts. This combination gives Turbodog its rich body and color and a sweet chocolate-toffee like flavor. Turbodog along with the other Abita brews are created at their state-of-the-art brewhouse in Abita Springs. Abita Beer is currently distributed in over 30 states.

David Blossman reports the Abita Brewing Company is on pace to have a record breaking sales year, “We’re experiencing a double digit increase in sales this year and that’s up from a big increase last year.”

Founded in 1986, Abita Brewing Company has quickly grown to become one of the nations top specialty brewers. In their first year of operation the brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer. Today, Abita brews an astonishing 52,o00 barrels.

“Even in the face of this exceptional growth we stay grounded in what has made us so successful… putting quality before quantity,” concluded Blossman.
