BOOK REVIEW: Knitters' Guide To The Galaxy

DA REVIEW: This ain't your grandma's travel guide -- oh wait, this is totally your grandma's travel guide. Probably her grandma's grandma's, too. And who could have guessed it's published in Ohio? (Solon in the house!)
That said, this book accomplishes exactly what it sets out to: state-by state listings -- complete with demarcated roadmaps -- of every knitting, needlepoint, crocheting, weaving and spinning store and "guild" (I'm picturing a buxom medieval beer wench serving me grog and knitting me socks; maybe this isn't so lame, after all!) in the country. Each entry includes a code corresponding to what they sell: y=yarn, n=needlepoint, w=weaving, s=spinning...genius! There are no photographs or editorials in the slightest -- it's as minimalist as it can be, with the exception of the occasional knitting fun(?) fact filler. Here's a typical entry (p. 180):

We don't know who the Town Ho is, but if we're ever in Brewster, Mass., we're stopping by her place for sure....er, for an Afghan, of course.

Hi Chris. I'm the publisher of this book, and want to thank you for your awesome review! I couldn't help but get a chuckle from your comment that the book was published in Ohio, where I now live. I have to tell you that, in my past life, I lived on Manhattan's Upper East Side for 11 years and worked as a sales manager for Calvin Klein Couture. I haven't always been the midwest "farmer's daughter." Happy knitting & keep up the great reviews.
