NEW RELEASE: Jesca Hoop "Money"

money Jesca Hoop is possibly the coolest nanny since Mary Poppins. Why? Well, she's certainly purty and has the kind of quirky sensibility that'll play well in alternative circles, but the stamp of approval comes from former employer, Tom Waits, who describes her music as being "like swimming in a lake at night."  Hopefully that factoid won't be an albatross, since there's a homespun delightfulness about her — especially if your introduction is this cut-and-paste playful tweak to those who worship the almighty dollar. --> watch "Money" AND be sure to check out the director Richard Borge's Drawger blog where he shares lots of behind-the-scenes tidbits and pictures

NEW RELEASE: The Hives "Tick Tick Boom"

packedloaded Rock n' Roll ain't meant to be a museum piece. It might be art, but it's also controlled chaos and destruction and, ideally, an affront to any reputable organization. Johnny Rotten and The Sex Pistols get it and so do The Hives. This high concept video imagines these garage rocking Swedes as a massive museum installation, meant to be admired and puzzled over alongside other modernist works. Great concept made even better by the band's destructive tendencies. They quickly break loose from their bonds and unleash some explosive mayhem on the museum and its precious little items and gawking bores. --> watch "Tick Tick Boom" (flash)

Asobi Seksu We've seen origami in music video before — see Regina Spektor's "Samson" or The Format's "The Compromise" for two completely different takes — but the computer-crafted 3D paper decorations seen in this clip serves as a fine, if not perfect match to the dreamy and constantly unfolding multi-cultural indie pop of Asobi Seksu. --> watch "Goodbye"

NEW RELEASE: Guster "Satellite"

the setWhether it's bringing a troupe of sad cows to life in The Shins video "Pink Bullets," or his parable about the side effects of technology in Wolf Parade's "Modern World," director Adam Bizanski has established himself as one of the most meticulous artists working in music video. This new clip for Guster is no less impressive. It required filming the band, printing and cutting-out (with scalpels, of course) over 1,000 different figures from the shoot, the construction of a large spinning stage that contained some amazingly detailed miniature sets and a little bit of FX to pull it all together. That's not to mention the actual storyline, which concerns two star crossed lovers who imagine meeting-up as they ponder the nighttime sky, yet never connect on this terrestrial world. --> watch an exclusive (?) time-lapse montage making-of short, and, of course, watch "Satellite" in Quicktime or Windows Media

NEW RELEASE: The Format "Dog Problems"

Format The spirit of Senor Wences lives on in this video for "Dog Problems" by The Format. Simple hand puppets — essentially hands au naturel with maybe one or two props — perform the vocals and bop along to the tune. The video begins with the hands making simple shadows on the wall, but the set-ups get increasingly intricate and clever as things progress out into the real world and onto various parodies — the highlight of which, for me at least, being a spoof of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." --> watch "Dog Problems"

Description: H.I.M. perform from behind custom stands that are topped with magnifying glasses. These curved optics not only magnify and distort the images of the band members, but they also help broadcast HIM's "Heartagram" emblem across a Gothic city as if it were a beacon.

BOOKED: Hawthorne Heights - Major Lightner, director

This Hawthorne Heights video is inspired by the movie Say Anything, in that it will be about an underachieving high school student in love with the beautiful and seemingly perfect valedictorian. Look for director Major Lightner to take that story to unexpected places through digitally composited backdrops and  morphed transitions.
