Greece midfielder Angelos Basinas has ended a turbulent period after agreeing a contract, thought to be for the next season and a half, with Spanish strugglers RCD Mallorca. The 29-year-old UEFA EURO 2004™ winner was released by Panathinaikos FC in September after eleven years' service, and now makes his first foray into international waters. Basinas does have a get-out clause, however, should Mallorca be relegated from the Primera División.

Hibernian FC captain Gary Caldwell will move to Glasgow to join Celtic FC in the summer when his deal with the Edinburgh club expires. The 23-year-old Scottish international defender has signed a pre-contract agreement with Celtic and will go to Parkhead as a free agent, following the footsteps of international team-mate Kenny Miller, who finalised a similar arrangement on Thursday.

Latvia winger Andrejs Rubins has returned to FC Shinnik Yaroslavl on a 12-month loan after struggling to settle at FC Spartak Moskva. The 27-year-old was a regular for the Russian side between 2003 and 2004, before linking up with former national-team coach Aleksandrs Starkovs at Spartak. But he has failed to find his form in the Russian capital, making just five appearances in the 2005 campaign.

Serbo-Montenegrin goalkeeper Sasa Todić has signed a three-year-contract with struggling Ukrainian Premier League outfit SC Tavriya Simferopol. The 31-year-old, a stalwart of FK Vojvodina over the last six seasons, will replace Vitaly Reva at the Lokomotiv stadium after the Ukrainian international was called back from loan by FC Dynamo Kyiv. Todić becomes the second Serbo-Montenegrin arrival at Tavriya this month following the addition of Vladimir Vujović.

Albanian midfielder Besnik Hasi has joined KSC Lokeren OV from Belgian First Division rivals RSC Anderlecht for an undisclosed fee. The 34-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half year deal and will be reunited with coach Aimé Anthuenis for a third time following spells together at KRC Genk and Anderlecht.

Club Brugge KV forward Victor Simões has rejoined former team KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen. The 24-year-old Brazilian, whose contract at Club Brugge was due to expire in the summer, will spend the rest of the season on loan at Germinal Beerschot who then have the option to sign him permanently.

AJ Auxerre have loaned midfielder Hassan Yebda to Ligue 2 side Stade Lavallois MFC until the season's end. The 21-year-old, a member of the France squad that won the FIFA U-17 World Championship in 2001, has not appeared in Auxerre's first team this term.

Another former French youth international on the move is Grégory Paisley, who has agreed to end his contract with FC Metz and sign an 18-month deal with ES Troyes Aube Champagne. The 28-year-old defender has been out of favour at Metz for several weeks.

Georgian international goalkeeper Nukri Revishvili has joined FC Rubin Kazan on a three-year deal from FC Kutaisi Torpedo. The Kutaisi-born 19-year-old only broke into the Torpedo first-team last season, but impressed sufficiently to earn call-ups to the Georgia side for the recent 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Greece. Revishvili joins compatriots Lasha Salukvadze and Georgi Kinkladze at Rubin, who have qualified for next season's UEFA Cup.

Veteran Cypriot forward Kostas Malekos has made an unexpected return to football at the age of 34, signing an 18-month deal with Cypriot First Division side Olympiakos Nicosia FC. Malekos, who has won 43 caps for Cyprus, was thought to have retired at the end of last season with Apollon Limassol FC. He also counts AEL Limassol FC, APOEL FC and Greek side Panathinaikos FC among his former clubs.

MSV Duisburg have further strengthened their squad for the second half of the Bundesliga season by signing midfielder Marco Caligiuri on a long-term loan from VfB Stuttgart. The 21-year-old playmaker, who has spent the last three seasons in Stuttgart's reserve side, has joined Duisburg until summer 2007.

Still in Germany, Jochen Seitz is likely to join German third division side TSG Hoffenheim after 1. FC Kaiserslautern cancelled his contract. The 29-year-old midfielder, who would have become a free agent in the summer, had scored once in 12 Bundesliga appearances for Kaiserslautern this season.

Athletic Club Bilbao have loaned Francisco Javier Tarantino to second division side CD Numancia for the rest of the season. The 21-year-old defender spent last season with Numancia, then in the Primera División, and has appeared three times for Athletic this season.
