Had this tv for 1 week and the picture quality is brilliant and also the sound. The colour is nice and bright with nice clear images, it has HDMI socket for HD, component, 2 scarts, audio out, connection for pc, s-video, the stand it comes with is nice and soild, word of warning on the stand though make sure you look for the instructions as mine couldnt be found and had to go on the website to get them but when i was tearing up the box for the bin under the bottom flap of the box was the instructions taped up impossible to see. Also make sure the glass shelfs are the last thing you put in after moving the tv in the correct spot as they just rest in the slots. Also the screen is nice and clear, like other rear projections they have screens that have tiny lines down and this does not which makes it clear on any angle watching.

A 50" HDTV with HDMI, Integrated Freeview and a fantastic stand manufactured by Sony for around £1,200??? I thought the same thing as quite possibley all people who have bought this set. Where's the catch? The truth is, there isn't one. This TV is the bargain of the year and should be double the price. Quality through DVD is astonishing and if you have a DVD-Upscaler, you are laughing. Digital TV viewing can be a little blocky on some channels but this is due to the relatively poor feed on a Hi-resolution set. Out of the box you will find yourself messing around with the picture settings because the default is useless. Once you get the picture balance right the picture is as good, if not better than some Plasmas costing twice the price plus the fact it's bigger. It doesn't take all that much room as it is LCD Rear Projection and the TV itself is extremely light (about 30KG). I highly recommend this set. I wouldn't have complained had the TV cost me £2,000. It really is that good.

I was impressed by the picture quality of this TV while browsing the shops especially as it was only hooked up to a RF cable. I've had it 6 weeks now and like the other reviews I can't find fault with it.I turned the sharpness down to minimum and this gives an excellent picture from my Sky+ box. I paid £1225.00 for it including a first class stand but it's worth much much more. Can't wait for my HDSky+ box to complete the full picture.(excuse the punn)

Excellent saturated colours, light output and viewing angle - sharpness really needs to be set very low for my SKY+ box though and the EPG characters still aliases like mad. Prob not the TV's fault. I also notice very faint vertical lines running through pic on coloured backgrounds. It has an auto iris control that serves to crush the blacks dependent on picture level, but for this to be effective it is too distracting as you notice it adjusting overall luminance level shot by shot. I have it set to minimum and it does not render blacks very dark - more shades of grey which spoils dark room viewing as you dont get proper blacks. It also has a VERY noisy fan to cool the lamp which is hugely dissapointing. I bought a big telly as eyesight deteriorates with age - I can see this huge telly but not the buttons on the tiny remote!!! Notwithstanding the moans above, it is neat, slim has a good picture and ok sound. Has a load of inputs [inc VGA] and overall it is excellent value. Cant wait for the SKY HD on May2nd to see what it looks like! D

Fantastic set, ran the PC through it with some HD-WMV clips from MS, and the quality was stunning. Only issue is that with SDTV, the limitations of current compression technology can be a bit obvious, esp with fast moving subjects. PC input only 1024x768 and not 1280x768 as you would expect, and cannot stretch to fill screen. DVD great too, with 2xRGB scart, 1xComponent RCA, 1 x Composite RCA, 1 x 15-pin SVGA and 1 x HDMI. Also has Audio out RCAs for connection to home cinema.

This tv is totally awesome, bought it from sony last december for crimbo and love it. My hd gets installed by sky on 24th may and I cant wait. No problems whatsoever and I've found on ebay that you can get the replacement lamps £100+ cheaper than from sony. Roll on...

I bought this late last year and now i cannot wait to get the HD from sky (26th May) but i bought a phillips HDMI dvd player which upscales the picture to the correct pixels. The picture is now very clear. The only downside to this TV is it only has one HDMI input. The picture quality is very good. The current price of around is £1399 in the major retailers is good for theis TV. For a cheaper price i got mine for £1170. + £50 del for empiredirect. The stand it comes with is excellent and is very easy to install took me about 30 mins from opening the box to have it set up and working. Overall it is very good value for money picture quality is good and freeview as well.

Probably the best HD rear projection TV on the market. I have not got a bad word to say about this TV, some say the fan that cools the lamp makes excessive noise, but I haven't heard it.

I recently got this screen delivered on Wednesday and was impressed with the look and feel of this set after getting recommended by a friend. I have had to mess with the picture settings a bit as mentioned previously the defualt settings are not great but I think I will get its true quality when I get Sky HD. I was fortunate as I got this set for free from www.shop-2-profit.com so its worth emailing them about this promotion they are running as its not advertised on the site. I also was going to choose a plasma but after seeing the burn in from the one we have at work I got put off.

As for the fan, yes this is annoying when the audio is at low level. Add this to the fan noice on the Sky+ bux and it is very noticeable. Overal though a very nice set.

Good value for a screen of this size

Tried a couple of LCDs and wasn't happy with the quality. Spotted this TV in the Comet sale and did a little homework on rear projection TVs. Have to say this is a great set. The picture is better than any flat LCD I have tried. Colours are realistic, no smearing at all. Connected to a HDMI DVD player and the quality's superb. If your not to bothered about hanging your TV on the wall (can't do it with model) this is a great way to get a large HDTV.

I have had the Sony KDFE50A12 for a year and I still can't find anything wrong. Total value for money.
