UPDATE: Slow, not steady
It seemed like a good idea at the time, of OzBus. The idea: taking the legendary Green Tortoise bus tours global. On tap was a 12 week bus odyssey from London to Sydney replacing that cramped economy flight for backpackers and budget travelers with a horizon-expanding jaunt through Iran, India and even East Timor, with food, camp/hotel costs and ferry tickets - all for $7,650 per person (liquor extra).
The first left London, with 38 paying passengers crammed into a secondhand bus, on September 19 – scheduled to arrive at 5pm exactly on December 9 in Sydney. Sadly, it looks like the organizers were a little too ambitious. After a broken exhaust and a collision with a tree, that old banger finally packed up, stranding its passengers in the homey confines of Tehran. The pair of businessmen behind the trek are promising a replacement vehicle asap. Ticket sales for the next departure - this time from Sydney in January next year - are unlikely to be brisk.
