Train Fleet Maintenance
RailCorp has maintenance depots at Hornsby, Mortdale and Flemington to provide maintenance support for its electric fleet. RailCorp also has a contract with MainTrain to conduct major overhauls and associated warranty work on these trains. EDI is contracted to RailCorp to maintain the Millennium fleet.

Maintenance Reliability
RailCorp has around 1,500 train carriages which provide about 600,000 services per year. A number of mechanical incidents are recorded with trains each day and rail staff are encouraged to report incidents so that they can be rectified as quickly as possible.

The maintenance data below gives a breakdown of the performance of maintenance depots responsible for the ongoing inspection and maintenance of CityRail trains. This relates to all mechanical problems recorded on all trains - identified before, during and after service. The faults do not necessarily cause delays to passenger services.

November
The number of mechanical problems fixed at Hornsby depot in November increased by over 63% from October. The increase was due to problems associated with the fitment of Festo door motors especially on K sets. Fitting new door brackets to K sets during this period has seen mechanical faults at Hornsby return to close to the annual average.
