Thursday's GDC panel with Lead Designer Matt Hooper helped clear up some of the misconceptions (and confusion) about the technology, and while the nuances are primarily something game artists will care about, gamers could see less repetition and fewer seams in their gaming environments.

"Gearbox Software
actually built a working pulse rifle. No, not a knock-off
Air-soft version. A real bullet firing pulse rifle with
a machine gun on the top, a shotgun on the bottom and even
a digital ammo-count reader. Check out the first shots of
both the in-game version and the real-life version..."
Check out all the new
features. Thanks to Indari and Aliener for the tip.
Dark Horse is releasing a new Aliens novel called No
Exit. It's about a man who knows too much - enough for
people to try to kill him - in a setting of a planet ravaged
by Aliens. Sound good? Read more on its profile
page. Here's an excerpt:
"After thirty years
of cryogenic sleep, Detective Anders Kramm wakes to a changed
world. The alien threat has been subdued. Company interests
dominate universal trade. Terraforming is big money now,
with powerful men willing to do anything to assure dominance
over other worlds.
"But Kramm has a secret. He knows why The Company killed
twelve of its top scientists. He knows why the aliens have
been let loose on the surface of a contested planet. He
knows that the information he has is valuable, and that
The Company will do everything it can to stop him from telling
his secret to the world. Haunted by memories of the brutal
murder of his family, Kramm is set adrift amid billion dollar
stakes . . . with aliens around every corner, waiting for
him to make a mistake."
It'll cost about seven dollars. Check
on it when it comes out in July.
Aliens Omnibus Volume 4
17:05 | by David Shipley
Along with a Predator
Omnibus, there's a new Aliens Omnibus coming out, too
- Omnibus
Volume 4. It features nearly four hundred story pages
in full color - multiple comics in one book. Pretty cool -
check
it out.
"Like sports, the
victor is he who wants it more. Unlike sports, the loser
earns extinction.
"Mankind has fought for survival over countless millennia,
but nothing has threatened humanity's existence like the
murderous Alien scourge. While some have tried to use the
creatures' deadly abilities to serve their own selfish ends,
no one can dance with the devil, and ultimately only one
species must prevail. To that end, men have turned their
own lethal instincts and cold intellect against the monsters,
creating engineered plagues, cybernetic fighting suits,
and even bogus android aliens, but survival rides not on
technology, but on the primacy of the most deep-rooted,
feral instincts."

More Movie Magic
17:24 | by Pappy-R Sissy & Eggbert check out "The Last RtCW Movie" in this week's Wolf movie review and ask the musical question; Is it really the last, or should it just be the last? It's a fairly weighty flick coming in at over 500mb and the film featured plenty of frags and sniping but is that enough? Is it worth its download weight? Let Sissy & Eggbert be the judge!
That thing is freaky. If you had it on your desk, your friends
would be like, "What? What is that? Alien and...Judge
Dredd? Nice! Nice motif." You should see
it for yourself.
"In a battle that
brought Mega-City one to its knees, Judge Dredd, the gritty
hero of Britain's award-winning anthology 2000 AD, faced
off against Fox Film's Alien in one of the most memorable
comic book cross-over stories of all time.
First 4 Figures and Dark Horse Comics are proud to present
a truly unique sculptural treatment inspired by this masterpiece.
Rife with special features, this limited-edition piece is
the perfect collectible.
Starting with a spot-on interpretation of the classic illustration
by Henry Flint, painstakingly built up and re-created as
sculpture, with every detail intact, the transmogrifying
heads of the protagonists blend together as one.
The otherworldly skull of the alien is visible through a
blackened translucent surface, creating an eerily striking
effect. A hidden lighting element in the base creates an
otherworldly glow that seems to pulsate with evil. Alien
eggs surround the base, with unusual resins used to create
a viscous pool within these pods, as face-huggers slowly
emerge.
Comes in deluxe full color packaging, hand numbered base,
and includes a Certificate of Authenticity which allows
you to purchase the same number of the model next in the
series. Strictly limited to a highly limited 1000 units
only worldwide.
Sideshow Collectibles is releasing another Aliens-related
diorama, this time an Alien
Resurrection one. They only have a small preview up with
one
photo and no release date, but it's better than nothing
- check
it out.
