90th "Battle of the Palouse" plays out in Pullman

07:18 PM PDT on Saturday, September 15, 2007

Pullman -- Washington State and Idaho are just eight miles apart, that’s why they are natural rivals.

The two squads are hooking up for the 90th time Saturday in the “battle of the Palouse.” There is something a little more special this time around. Vandal head coach Robb Akey makes his first return to Pullman since taking over the job at Idaho. Akey spent eight years with the Cougars as an assistant.

On another note, If Cougar quarterback Alex Brink has another big game on Saturday against Idaho, some of the credit may go to Peyton and Eli Manning.

Brink has attended football passing camps the past three summers run by the Manning family.

Brink says he learned the importance of off-season running and throwing drills.

The game against the Vandals will be the first for the Cougars this season in Pullman. WSU has won its past six openers in Martin Stadium.
