Poetry in celebration of International Women's Week
These two wonderful writers return to their first love, poetry. Anjum's Malik's latest series, The Interpreter, was broadcast on Radio 4 in January to critical acclaim and she is currently developing a play with Birmingham Rep. Cheryl Martin has had many plays produced (BBC, Granada and stage) and has won the MEN Theatre Award for Best Studio Production. She is Associate Director of New Writing/New Work at the Contact Theatre.

¡Viva! is the UK's only festival dedicated to Spanish-speaking cinema from Spain and Latin America.
Taking place over 10 days, the festival features the best films of the past two years, a themed section, archive screenings, short films programme, talks and parties.

On 14 May 2008, the City of Manchester Stadium will host the UEFA Cup Final.
The final of the world's largest club football competition is the conclusion to a historical and thrilling tournament, involving 144 football clubs across Europe. Since the competition was established in 1971, previous winners have included Real Madrid, Porto, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool who have won it a joint record breaking 3 times along with Internazionale Milano and Juventus. The climax to the tournament in Manchester will be televised live in over 200 countries worldwide.
You can apply for tickets for the Final through a public ballot which runs from 14 February 11am until 16 March 11pm (there are 11,000 tickets available for fans worldwide), exclusively via Europe's football website UEFA Cup Final 2008 website (external site).

A city-wide showcase of Irish culture and celebration of all things Irish.
The popular Irish Festival Market (7-9 March, Albert Square) offers a taste of Ireland with arts, crafts and speciality foods from across the Irish Sea. Alongside the market stalls, the Irish Café will be serving up food and drinks.
The St Patrick's Parade (9 March) will see over 70 floats, bands and walking groups wind their way through the city to Albert Square.
The St Patrick's Parade will start at 11.45am from outside the Irish World Heritage Centre, Queens Road and progress along Cheetham Hill Road, Corporation Street and onto Cross Street and around Albert Square before returning to the Irish World Heritage Centre by the same route.

Caricature: the art of satire
Have a chuckle at our selection of Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian prints and drawings. This display includes works by Rowlandson, Gillray, and Cruickshank, plus some original cartoons drawn for local papers a hundred years ago.

Richard Arkwright built the first steam-driven spinning mill right here in Manchester in 1782. It heralded the beginning of the factory system and the establishment of the city as a major industrial power.
