Using Movie / Video Controls

Under Video Icon (Video) in the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system home menu, the following icons are displayed:



UMD icon
UMD
UMD™ VIDEO Play a UMD™ (Universal Media Disc) VIDEO. This icon will appear only when a UMD™ VIDEO disc is inserted. When you select this icon, a thumbnail will display.


Memory Stick icon
Memory Stick
Memory Stick™ Play movie/video saved on a Memory Stick Duo™. This icon will appear only when a Memory Stick Duo™ is inserted.

While you are using the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) to watch movies or videos, the buttons on the front of the PSP® function as follows:

Triangle button
Display or hide the control panel.


X button
Start playback or confirm a choice.


Circle button
Go back to the previous screen, exit a function, or hide the control panel.


Right Button Left Button Up Button Down Button
Directional buttons Navigate menus and options, such as the control panel. Play or fast-forward/fast-reverse playback.


Select button
Display information or resume playback.


Start button
Pause or start playback.

Use the on-screen video control panel to control the movie/video playback, display information, and access other video functions.


Using the Video Control Panel:

  • While a movie/video is playing, press Triangle button at any time to display the video control panel.
  • Select one of the option icons, and press X button. For example, to pause playback, select the Pause icon and press X button.
  • To clear the video control panel, press the Triangle button or Circle button button.

Menu icon
Menu
Displays the UMD™ Video Menu.


Go To icon
Go To
Plays a specified chapter or time. For more information, see Using the Video Control Panel.


Audio Options icon
Audio Options
Switches between available audio options for UMD™ VIDEO recorded with multiple audio tracks.


Angle Options icon
Angle Options
Switches between available angles for UMD™ VIDEO recorded with multiple angles.


Subtitle Options icon
Subtitle Options
Switches available angles for UMD™ VIDEO that include subtitles.


Video Volume icon
Video Volume
Boosts the volume of the UMD™ VIDEO. For more information, see Using the Video Control Panel.


Screen Mode icon
Screen Mode
Changes the size of the on-screen image. For more information, see Using the Video Control Panel.


Display icon
Display
Displays the playback status and related information. For more information, see Using the Video Control Panel.


Help icon
Help
Displays the functions of the PSP® buttons.


Playback settings
Allows you to control the playback, for example, Previous icon returns to the previous chapter of a UMD™ VIDEO and Pause icon pauses playback. For more information, see Using the Video Control Panel.

Under Settings icon (Settings) in the home menu, select Video Settings icon (Video Settings) to access the following settings:

  • Menu Language
    Select a language for the UMD™ VIDEO menu.
  • Audio Language
    Select a language for the audio.
  • Subtitle Language
    Select a language for the subtitles.
  • UMD™ Video Volume
    Adjust the volume when the UMD™ VIDEO output level is too low. The volume has three levels: Normal, +1, and +2.
  • UMD™ Video L/R Button
    Set to "Do Not Use" to disable Chapter Skip function or set to "Chapter Skip" to enable Chapter Skip function, controlled by the L/R button.
