Michael Dell
Graduate of Spring Branch Memorial High School

Michael Dell, who founded the Dell Computer Corporation in 1984 with nothing more than $1,000 and an idea, now serves as chairman and chief executive officer of one of the largest computer systems businesses in the world.

The corporation, recognized as the largest online seller of computer systems, was founded on the idea of “bypassing the middleman” to sell custom-built PCs directly to consumers.

Dell has been honored many times for his creative leadership, earning the titles of Entrepreneur of the Year from Inc. magazine, Man of the Year by PC magazine, Top CEO in American Business from Worth magazine, and CEO of the Year by Financial World and Industry Week magazines.

After graduating from Spring Branch Memorial High School, Dell attended The University of Texas at Austin, where he began selling computers from his dorm room.
