The Vikings landed their fifth free agent today, signing linebacker Derrick Pope to a one-year contract.
Pope appeared in 55 games in four seasons with the Miami Dolphins and has experience at all three linebacker positions in addition to special teams.
He said he's not sure what his role will be with the Vikings but that he's ready for whatever they have in mind.
"I feel like I fit well into the defensive scheme," he said. "They have a great defense. I'm just ready to be part of a winning team."
Pope is expected to fill the backup role formerly held by Dontarrious Thomas, who signed with San Francisco as a free agent.
Note: Defensive end James Hall, who was released by St. Louis at the start of free agency, is visiting Winter Park today.
