Zoe and Lenny Kravitz | Actor and Designer/Musician

By ALEX HAWGOOD

Some rock stars like to destroy hotel rooms, but Lenny Kravitz opts to design them instead. His firm, Kravitz Design Inc., brings a camera-ready, retro-inspired flash to everything it does. He has collaborated with Swarovski to make a blinged-out, Art Deco-inspired chandelier called Casino Royale and even lent his signature touch to a recording studio for the Setai Group. Most recently, he redesigned the lounge at the Delano Hotel in Miami’s South Beach. His inspiration? “My aunt had a place in her house,” he says, “where everyone played, hung out, listened to music and where all the fun was had.” With that in mind, Kravitz kept the space’s aesthetic close to home, complete with a replica of his own Lucite grand piano. His daughter, Zoe, is an acting student, with two movies coming out this year. Those who wonder about her design sensibilities are in luck: the 19-year-old is about to move into her first apartment.
