NEW RELEASE: Against Me! "Don't Lose Touch"

Against Me!Against Me! "Don't Lose Touch" Fat Wreck Chords
Philip Andelman, director
Billy Parks, producer
Partizan, production co
Ketil Dietrichson, DP
Barney Miller, editor
Description: "Don't Lose Touch" is a fine example of how a simple performance video can be totally captivating. Director Philip Andelman captures every little nuance and each band member's individual personalities as they perform in a rehearsal room. The camera also lingers on a contented dog and a broken bottle for reasons that don't become clear until the very end, when their movements reveal that parts of the video were actually shot backwards.

NEW RELEASE: Of Montreal "Wraith Pinned To The Mist"

Of MontrealOf Montreal "Wraith Pinned To The Mist (And Other Games)" Polyvinyl
Lauren Gregg & Craig Sheldon, directors
Kangaroo Alliance, production co
Description: Just when you think this animated video is a joyful romp, some little act of violence happens to keep you off balance. For example, the video's first section is about a happy go lucky bunny that meets an unfortunate end, while the second segment involves a malicious penguin and a kitty guillotine. The clip continues to unveil cute, yet mean spirited creatures that live up to the song's promise of "bizarre celebrations." See for yourself at Kangaroo Alliance.

NEW RELEASE: Mates Of State "Goods (All In Your Head)"

Mates Of StateMates Of State "Goods (All In Your Head)" Polyvinyl
Jonathan Yi & Sam Goetz, directors
Description: "Goods (All In Your Head") is a portrait of two competitive brothers. While they act like a bunch of soccer hooligans, there is an underlying heart as we realize that the two nitwits really do love one another. Although the video doesn't have a happy ending, the behind the scenes story does: This is actually the result of an online contest held by Mates Of States thatlet fans direct videos for this track. This winning entry is by film students Jonathan Yi and Sam Goetz.

NEW RELEASE: The Exit "Don't Push"

forbidden fruitThe Exit "Don't Push" Wind-Up
Terri Timely, directors
Barbara Benson, producer
Refused TV, production co
Max Goldman, DP
Behn Fannin, editor
Description: "Don't Push" is set in the aftermath of a car accident that finds The Exit singer/guitarist Ben Brewer reevaluating his life. He's torn between going home to his committed relationship and enjoying the "forbidden fruit" of an anonymous sexual encounter. Although the video ends without the viewer knowing which "door" Brewer chose to open, it's pretty clear that Brewer has at least recognized that you should never treat love lightly. This is the first clip off Wind-Up's re-release of the eclectic NYC punk trio's 2004 album Home For An Island.

NEW RELEASE: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club "Ain't No Easy Way"

BRMCBlack Rebel Motorcycle Club "Ain't No Easy Way" RCA
Charles Mehling, director
Jason Botkin, producer
Streetgang Films, production co
Ken Mowe, editor
Description: Black Rebel Motorcycle Club work up an organic bluesy swagger in "Ain't No Easy Way." The band's performance takes place at a party house where women enjoy both sin and salvation (or perhaps the salvation of sin?). Women entertain at a gathering of foreign army officers while they explore sexual boundaries with each other and take part in a communal meditation service. As BRMC fans could probably guess, the hazy and presumably opiate-fueled vibe meshes quite nicely with the band's sound.
