Newcastle Join Long List Of Stephane Mbia Admirers

Friday March 21st, 2008 by Ed Harrison· 16 Comments

There were reports yesterday that Newcastle United Football Club have entered the race for 21 year-old Cameroon International Stephane Mbia.

Stphane Mbia - 21 year-old Defensive Midfielder has lots of clubs interested
Mbia is also being targeted by Manchester City and the player is also saying there is interest from both Liverpool and Barcelona.

Mbia spoke to the Manchester Evening News yesterday:

“I’ve had contact from teams in England and Italy. There are contacts with Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool and in Spain there is Barcelona as well”

“For the moment I’m not thinking of it and I will stay with Rennes. I’ll rely on people like general manager Pierre Dreossi, who knows me and my parents very well. Then it’ll be me who takes a decision.”

Stéphane Mbia Etoundi was born in May, 1986 in Yaoundé and plays for French club Stade Rennais. He is a defensive midfielder, but can also play at right back

In the recent African Cup of nations quarterfinals Mbia had an excellent match against Tunisia, and scored two goals, including the game winner in the second minute of extra-time, to propel Cameroon to victory.

Of course our very own Geremi played in that game too, and it may be that Geremi might be able to attract Mbia to Newcastle in the summer.

The 6′2″ Rennes star is said to be rated around at £10M and has played 53 times for the French club.

While he would be a great acquisition for the club, we’d do well to persuade this boy to join Newcastle United, when there are far more attractive teams (right now) after him.  But we’re sure the club will give it a go - there’s nothing to lose.

Here is Stephane’s playing record.

Youth Clubs
Years Academy
2003-2004 Kadji Sports Academy
2004 Stade Rennais B
Senior clubs
Years Club App Goals
2005- Stade Rennais 53 1
2005- Cameroon 11 3

Comments welcome.

Not going to be cheap…we should concentrate on getting young raw players from Africa instead.

I’m pretty sure this was the same guy who tried to sell me a rolex while on holiday last year, although he showed a great deal of pace when the local police turned up…..
Not really interested who we may or may not be signing at the moment……..although we do seem to be spending shed loads on our scouting network, who gets the blame if we sign any more Boumsong type players?

    Oh and Happy Easter folks.

ps, if anybody is going to Seahouses over the weekend make sure you are there early as you WILL not get a parking space as the local council has decided to dig up the only car park in the village.

Off subject, but I wish Taylor would stop running his mouth. He is the most error prone defender, bar bramble, I’ve seen in a NUFC shirt. His decision making is appalling and technically he can not pass or bring the ball out of defense. Add to that he is a greedy so and so. Ronaldo made a monkey out of Taylor, whereas EDGAR played Ronaldo to a standstill and even scored himself.

nick dryden, remember that taylor had chelsea’s drogba in his back pocket when we played them last season, he is having a real bad dip in form, i think he is drained of energy, which makes people make bad decisions.

which was why bramble made so many bubu’s, he was way overweight and got flustered while on the ball. if he lost weight he would be one of the best, i believe, might be wrong though haha…

back on subject, mbia- 6.2″ is a good height, i can remember watching the ANC and remember he was rated but cant remember how he played, is he quick?

we need top class centermidfielders and central defenders, also a versitile right wingers… oops i shouldnt have said that- que people stating who they want haha

you never know, remember we have a top class recruitment team whos job it is to persuade these players to join. This fella looks too much like geremi for my liking though.

buy more european players..newcastle like more african players than england players

  • 15 Tom_Toon // Mar 21, 2008 at 14:58

Is he really good enough for Manure? From what i’ve seen of him; probably not.

  • 16 Momo // Mar 21, 2008 at 23:11

If we buy anymore african players, we’ll be the portsmouth of the north-east. Yes Africans bring a lot of skill into the squad but when it comes to the african cup of nations, half your squad is forced off and youve lost some talent. Stick to European and South Americans until the ACON moves to the summer by FIFA.
