The 2008 Texas A&M; Aggies season is underway! Most
The Texas A&M; Aggies represent the Texas A&M; University (usually shortened to the Texas A&M;, the A&M;, or the TAMU). The University was established in 1871, and became the first public college in Texas. The Texas A&M; Aggies were the participants of the Southwest Conference. From 1996 they are the members of the Big 12 Conference and the NCAA (the National Collegiate Athletics Association) Division I A.
The main colors of the Texas A&M; Aggies are white and maroon. The teams mascot is a collie called Reveille, officially adopted in 1931. The story of a mascot is quite interesting. It says that one of the athletes once found a little collie near the students dormitory. Though it was against the rules to keep animals in the dorms, the students decided to keep it. In the morning the dog was discovered barking. Therefore she was given the name Reveille. From that time the collie became the teams permanent mascot.
