The Animal Chiropractic
Certification Commission (ACCC) of the American Veterinary
Chiropractic Association develops standards of care in animal
chiropractic, conducts a professional certification program and awards
credentials to individuals who meet established criteria and assessments
in different modes of care.
The purpose of the examination
process is to ensure the public and the animal chiropractic profession
that those candidates who pass written comprehensive and |
clinical examinations are
suitable for certification in the field of animal chiropractic. The
examinations are designed to evaluate the suitability for practice in the
international animal chiropractic environment.

WHY ACCC/AVCA CERTIFICATION IS
DESIRABLE |
Earning
certification from the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association ACCC
represents a significant professional achievement. ACCC/AVCA
Certification makes an important statement about professional competence
that is recognized by the profession, the public and some regulatory
bodies.

STEPS
TO AVCA
CERTIFICATION IN ANIMAL CHIROPRACTIC |
1.
Attend an Animal
Chiropractic Accreditation Commission (ACAC) of the American Veterinary
Chiropractic Association (AVCA) accredited
animal chiropractic program.
2.
After
successfully passing the ACAC accredited program’s exit exam, contact the
Animal Chiropractic Certification Commission (ACCC) of the AVCA to be sent
a Examination Candidate Handbook
3.
Apply and sit
ACCC written and clinical (practical) examinations within 1 year of
graduation from an ACAC accredited program.
4.
Complete a 40
hour internship within 1 year of graduation from an ACAC accredited
program.
5.
Pass both the
written and clinical (practical) examinations and submit completed
internship documentation to the ACCC/AVCA
office.
6.
Applicants
receive 3 year certification by the ACCC/AVCA based on
fulfillment of all requirements.
7.
Submit
recertification requirements before the end of expiration
year. |

ELIGIBILITY AND EXAMINATIONS |
Eligibility: Licensed doctors of
chiropractic and licensed doctors of veterinary medicine who
have passed
ACAC accredited
postgraduate programs in animal
chiropractic seeking certification in Animal
Chiropractic must meet or exceed the minimum level of
competency in the examinations set by the Examining
Board.
A
passing grade of 75 in both the written, knowledge based
examination and the clinical competency
examination ensures that the doctor thoroughly understands and
is competent in the science, art and philosophy of Animal
Chiropractic. Doctors seeking certification must also
complete a 40 hour internship with an ACCC Certified
Doctor.

Candidate Notification. Place
your name on the candidate mailing list to receive the packet
by contacting the office by mail or fax. It is wise to
follow up by telephone contact to make sure that your
information has been

Certification
Examinations Candidate Information Packets are
mailed out 8 - 10 weeks prior to the examination. The
application deadline is 6 - 8 weeks prior to the examination
date.

The ACCC is committed to high quality testing of doctors who
qualify to sit this examination. We believe it is our responsibility
to be sure that doctors are clinically competent and understand the
science, art, and philosophy of animal chiropractic before the Commission will
consider referring individuals to these doctors. |

RECERTIFICATION and UPCOMING CE |
ACCC Certification is valid
for 3 years. The ACCC is committed to promoting life-long
continual improvement for those who have earned certification in animal
chiropractic. Certified doctors are responsible for renewing their
certification every 3 years.
Recertification requirements
mandate a minimum of 30 approved credits. 20 of those credits must
be in animal chiropractic continuing education hours approved by the ACCC.
The remaining 10 credits may be acquired through approved

literature,
pre-approved cross-professional training, pre-approved certificant
presentation/lecture/s and accompanying and observing another ACCC
Certified Doctor. Recertification applications are available through
the ACCC office and are mailed with recertification notices 3 – 6
months prior to certificant’s expiration date.
In order to receive important
communications, policy updates and information, it is imperative that the
ACCC be informed of certificant’s current address
information. |
