Alan Mansfield is a graduate of the Boston Conservatory of Music (USA) where he studied through 1970-75 and gained his Batchelor of Music in Music Education, specialising in clarinet. In Australia, he is best known as keyboard-player and member of the highly successful Kiwi pop group "DRAGON", but he has also been keyboard-player for singer ROBERT PALMER ("Simply Irresistible"/"Addicted to Love") since 1979.
It was a world tour as keyboard player with Bette Midler in 1978-79 which created an opportunity for many Australian artists to experience his unique style. Alan enjoyed his Australian "stop-over" so much that Sydney became his "other" international base. Following that tour he began recording and production with many artists in Australia. A very important highlight was "DRAGON" for whom he produced the hit singles "Rain" and "Magic". He made a bet that if "Rain" didn't make it to No.1 he would join the band, and ironically a novelty song called "Australiana" kept rain at No.2 and the rest is history.
In 1993 he toured with English band "UB 40" on their last major world tour which lasted fifteen months and during which he also performed with Robert Palmer at the ROYAL ALBERT HALL in London with the BBC Symphoney Orchestra and Big Band. Then it was back to Australia to promote what would be DRAGON'S last album, "Incarnations". His most recent credit is co-writing Robert Palmer's last single, along with SHARON O'NEILL, called "True Love". It received extensive air-play throughout the U.S. and was performed on all the major talk shows in the country...(Jay Leno, David Letterman, Martin Short et.al) along with releases across Europe and Japan.
