It seems some people want to discuss things in threads to which they don’t belong. So, here’s another open thread about climate science. If you want to discuss political candidates, talk about their climate-science policies but not other things; that’s just too big a can of worms. And if you want to discuss other climate-related topics, feel free.

Bulldoghza/moshie: sorry, can’t reply out of honor to our host. If you really care, we can take it elsewhere (bigcitylib and climate skeptic are both unmoderated). I’d rather just let it go though…

    Hansen remains optimistic. See http://www.columbia.edu/~jeh1/2008/TargetCO2_20080317.pdf

This is interesting paper for those of you who wonder, how the climate sensitivity is determined. This paper also address the question when the fully effect of the climate forcing doubling is realized.

Conclusions are depressing though. Two years ago Hansen’s target was preventing reaching CO2 level at 450ppm, now he has evidence that the target should be actually 350ppm. Even that this can be reached, it is going to be a tough sale and touch experience for humankind before that happens.

Ok, I posted a link to the same paper than Aaron Lewis above. But the article is good, it is worth for two links.
