Dangerous Vegetables ed. Keith Laumer, Martin H. Greenberg & Charles G. Waugh (Baen 0-671-57781-6, Dec ’98 [Nov ’98], $5.99, 378pp, pb, cover by Bob Eggleton); Anthology of 22 stories, two original, featuring vegetables. A take-off on the “Dangerous Visions” anthologies. Authors include Ray Bradbury, Michael Bishop, and John D. MacDonald. The cover notes “Created by Keith Laumer”; Greenberg and Waugh are noted only in the copyright. The introduction by Ben Bova is about Laumer, and says the book was Laumer’s idea, but he died without doing it. Copyrighted by Tekno Books and Charles G. Waugh.

Non-fiction items include the Drac bible “The Talman”, a Drac glossary, and two articles on the writing of the fiction.


Crawling Chaos H. P. Lovecraft (Creation Books 1-871592-72-0, 1997 [Jun ’98], $19.95, 256pp, tp, cover by Robert Taylor); Reprint (Creation 1993 as Crawling Chaos: Selected Works 1920-1935) anthology of 22 stories. This revised edition drops the Editor’s Note and four stories, and adds three stories. The Hitler Options ed. Kenneth Macksey (SFBC #00308, Dec ’98 [Nov ’98], $10.98, 237pp, hc); Reprint (Greenhill 1995, not seen) non-fiction alternate history, a gathering of ten speculative non-fiction essays about WWII that rewrite military history as if certain alternate strategies had actually been used.
