The Rise of British Sea Power

A new scheme to harness tidal power for our energy needs will place Britain at the forefront of technology to use the sea to generate electricity. Coastal waters could supply one-fifth of our energy needs. Is this the right way to go? Or is this merely tinkering at the green edges when what we need are large-scale conventional power stations?

Farewell To 'Predictable, Tiresome, and Dreary' Women's Studies

Once upon a time it was the coming academic discipline, but, according to one feminist, "most young women now avoid it like the plague". The final batch of students will graduate in the subject this summer. After that, the subject will disappear as an undergraduate study. Is this right? Premature? Or a sign that women have reached a level where such a gender-based subject is no longer needed?

Cameron Sets Out to Woo The Unions Away From Labour

David Cameron is launching a 'beer and sandwiches' initiative to establish connections with the nation's brothers and sisters, appointing an envoy to the TUDC, and even hoping to be the first leader of his party to be invited to address their conference.
