Baby Yoda Sweater

yodaysweater.jpg
A simple, quick-to-knit wrap sweater for newborn to six months.
The wrap style allows for flexibility in fit, so you get longer use out of it, and is easy to get on and off the squirmy little kid. Knit in a soft, machine washable yarn of 100% cotton. (Young Jedis prefer natural fibers, you know. Acrylic interferes with The Force.) The front edges and neck are allowed to softly roll for an unconstructed, laid-back-baby look.

Size: 0 to 6 months (20” chest; 10” long)

Yarn: 4 balls Mission Falls 1824 Cotton in Graphite
(I only had to dip into the 4th ball of yarn to make the I-cord.
If you plan to make the cord from a contrasting yarn, you’ll only need 3 balls
of the Mission Falls)
Gauge: 18 sts/ 24 rows = 4”
Needles: Size 6 (or size needed to obtain gauge)

Sleeves (make two)

Bind off.

Ties
Make two 6” lengths of 3-stitch I-cord. (inner ties)
Make two 8” lengths of 3-stitch I-cord. (outer ties)

Finishing
Sew fronts and back together at shoulders. Attach sleeves and sew sleeve and side seams.
Transfer neck stitches from stitch holders to knitting needle.
Knit 3 rows st st.
Knit 2 rows garter.
Bind off loosely.

Attach Ties
Sweater is designed to cross with the left side in front. Feel free to reverse that (and hence reverse directions that follow).
Sew one length of 6” I-cord to the edge of the Right Front piece at the point where the straight edge ends and the decreases begin.
Sew the other 6: I-cord to the inside seam of the sweater at the point where the Right Front tie meets it when closed.

Sew one 8” I-cord to the point on the Left Front where the decreases begin,
and the second piece of 8” I-cord to the corresponding spot on the outer right seam of the sweater body.
