The Apprentice - Show faces bullying allegations

Monday, 31 March 2008

Producers on reality show The Apprentice have been accused of promoting bullying and aggressive behaviour by a children's charity.

Anti-bullying charity Kidscape claimed that scenes from an upcoming episode depicting a conflict between contestants Lucinda Ledgerwood and Jenny Celerier may give bullying "credibility".

Speaking to the Daily Star, Claude Knight of the charity stated that the behaviour - described as "public humiliation" - is taken to an extreme on the programme.

"The producers encourage aggressive behaviour and the contestants go along with it because they want their 15 minutes of fame," Mr Knight asserted.

"I know [Sir] Alan Sugar has been justifying himself but Kidscape certainly feels that The Apprentice contributes to the problem of bullying."

Meanwhile, 42-year-old ex-tabloid editor Piers Morgan - formerly of the News Of The World and the Mirror - recently won the US version of The Celebrity Apprentice, hosted by business mogul Donald Trump.

According to the Press Association, Piers won $250,000 (£125,000) for charity during his final task on the programme, beating American country and western musician Trace Adkins in the show's live final.
