The Loft

Council works with, and for, the people of Newcastle. We want our city to prosper and provide a bright future for our children.

Gigs at the LoftThe Loft runs drug and alcohol free arts and cultural activities for young people aged 12-25 years. The Loft is a safe place for young people express themselves, hang out with friends, meet new people, and gain skills as organisers of their own events and activites.

Opening Hours and Contact Details

Opening hours are weekdays 3.00pm - 7.00pm, for public access. Office hours are weekdays 9.00am - 5.00pm, messages can be left at any time.

The Loft Youth Venue is located at level 1, 7A Wolfe Street in the Newcastle Mall.

The Loft Youth Venue

Since July 2005 the Youth Venue has been running from Wolfe Street, as a result of a poll of our members the new venue was named THE LOFT.

The Venue includes

  • Sound studio
  • Gig space
  • Art room
  • Meeting space
  • Computer room
  • Disabled access.

Great programs on offer

The Venue’s regular programs will include:

  • Holiday programs
  • Artist in residency programs
  • Beats and Rhymes (Hip hop and electronica)
  • You Write Mate (aerosol art) – conducted at South Newcastle beach
  • After school computer and internet access
  • Indent Committee (all-ages gigs, music and programming advisory group)
  • Inzine magazine (48kb pdf)
  • Fashion Police
  • Ninja Radio.

Loft staff can only do so much - we are here to support your ideas. The more ideas you have and things you want to do will help to make the Youth Venue and Newcastle a better place for young people.

In addition we look forward to working with our Mall neighbours to develop partnership programs.

How do you join in?

Becoming a member for a minimal fee helps show your support of The Loft and the activities we run. Members receive their own membership cards, FREE internet access and school holiday workshops, Loft gig discounts, Inzine magazine, discounts at selected stores, and regular mail to keep you up to date with what's happening at The Loft.

Services and Hire of the Venue

The Loft venue space and workshop providers are available for hire to services committed to providing a safe, Drug and Alcohol Free environment to young people. The Venue has various resources to cater for all-ages events and functions. Make an appointment with the Venue to discuss hiring details, fees and charges.
