The Gamer's "Do Before Death, Marriage Or Kids" List, Part I
4/8/2008 4:53:00 PM
Once you reach a certain point in your life, it’s hard not to start thinking about the things you’d like to do before you croak. See the pyramids! Set foot on each of the continents! Take a Tex-Mex cooking class! As gamers, we often have similar thoughts, though they’re not necessarily on such a morbid timeline. Marriage and parenthood can also take a chunk out of prime gaming time, depending upon your choice of spouse or the amount of attention you plan on giving your tiny terror. Even if you don’t plan on spawning or dying in the immediate future, there are still tons of things that you should plan on doing while you have the time. Here’s a list of 150 things that every self-respecting gamer should do or experience before they die, get married or have kids.

4/8/2008 2:03:00 PM
Eidos is set to release four new maps for the Fragile Alliance multiplayer in Kane & Lynch via the downloadable pack “The Dope Bag.” Each of the four maps will feature a specific scenario. In “Clean Cut” players must try to take on dope dealers and the Russian mafia at a construction site, and in “Hooker’s Trail” they hit up Tokyo and battle the Yakuza. Raiding a drug baron’s Venezuelan mansion is the goal in “Flying High,” and the final map has the odd couple attempting to seal gold hidden in General Fuentes’s military convoy in “Hasta La Vista.”

Game Informer May Cover Revealed
4/8/2008 12:26:00 PM
At this year’s GDC, one of the biggest announcements was the reveal that Gears of War 2 was in development. Better still, Epic Games’ Cliffy B. told the crowd at Microsoft’s keynote address that it would be out in time for the 2008 holidays. The first game was one of the biggest blockbusters to hit the Xbox 360, making it clear that people were probably going to want to learn more about the sequel. Well, we don’t say that we’re the number one computer and video-game magazine on our covers to take up space. If you want the worldwide exclusive scoop on Gears of War 2, there’s only one place you’re going to find it—Game Informer Magazine. We’ve got details on new gameplay modes, characters and, of course, enemies. Our 12-page spread is chock full of exclusive screens and tantalizing details. This is one issue you’re not going to want to miss.

Costumes: What alternative outfits rule the video-game world?
4/7/2008 5:47:00 PM
The saying “the clothes make the man” is as true in the world of video games as it is in real life. Outer appearance intuitively helps us understand a character’s personality and information about the culture and world they inhabit. With that being said; if clothing is essential to understanding character context, why are we not satisfied with one outfit alone?

Rock Band Sponsors Flyleaf, Seether Tour
4/7/2008 3:55:00 PM

As part of the sponsorship, people who check out the shows from April through May 21 will have a chance to play Rock Band against members of both bands. Copies of the game will also be up for grabs at local competitions.

Watch Your Wallets—4/7
4/7/2008 8:28:00 AM
This is one of those weeks where you won’t have to keep both eyes on your wallet, if you’re worried about your money running away and spending itself. The PlayStation Store is still under construction, so there aren’t any updates to speak of. Rock Band’s DLC update is something that will seem a little familiar to die-hard fans, and that’s because those songs were available a few months ago via a pack-in disc in OXM. This week's retail releases are about as middle-of-the road as they come, too. As always, let’s hope next week blows the lids off our socks.

THQ Struts Its Stuff Gamers Day Style
4/4/2008 7:42:00 PM
It’s sunny and 75 here in San Francisco, and when the weather is this gorgeous there's only one thing to do—cram inside of a small venue and play video games! We're out in the bay area for THQ's annual gamers day to check out what the ever-changing publisher has in store for the near future. After opening remarks, we were treated to a few videos of the games that awaited us in the next room over—but before we could get to that, the company had a small surprise in the form of a very short teaser trailer to announce Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II from Relic. The CGI trailer showed a hero space marine going toe-to-toe with a giant orc using, yep, warhammers. After being assured that's all we’d get to see, it was time to shuffle in and check out the line-up.

Darksiders: Wrath of War Preview Storms In
4/4/2008 7:41:00 PM
Darksiders: Wrath of War is an action/adventure title for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in development by Vigil Games and set on a post-apocalyptic Earth. While the theme of humanity’s demise has been explored through all facets of media, Darksiders has a twist all its own. In Darksiders you are not the last remaining human on Earth, left in purgatory on the planet for eternity, nor are you a hellish creature trapped up top after your ascension. You take on the Biblical role of War – one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse. You and your three companions sounded the horn that ended humanity and are responsible for the destruction that has been wrought against our world.

UFO! - Destroy All Humans: Path of the Furon Preview
4/4/2008 7:39:00 PM
Destroy All Humans is back in another reincarnation of the comedic series, this time taking place in the 1970s. The first two games took us through the conservative ‘50s and the swinging ‘60s, and now we are on the path to enlightenment in the ‘70s. If we took anything away from this one-on-one showing of Path of the Furon – it is that the latest installment features even more ways to create mayhem and wreak havoc. Confirmed for both the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, Path of the Furon takes Crypto on a journey to gain enlightenment from an alien Kung Fu master, in order to gain powers that will allow him to save the Furon race once again.

Weekend Warriors—4/4
4/4/2008 6:36:00 PM
Warning: The following post contains references to something even lower on the nerd hierarchy than video games. That’s right, cosplay. We won’t hold that against a certain editor, though. Well, not any more than is necessary. The rest of us will be too cool for school this weekend playing games. In our basements. Alone. Sigh.
