Teachers Rock

Cleveland Rocks!: Local History in Real Classrooms.  4:30 - 6 p.m. This session of Teachers Rock explores Cleveland’s distinguished place in the history of rock and roll with Deanna Adams, author of Rock ‘n’ Roll and the Cleveland Connection, a book distinguished as a finalist for the 2003 Ohioana Award for nonfiction.  Adams-who teaches at writers’ conferences, Lakeland Community College, and the Cleveland Literacy Center-- will share slides and stories about Cleveland’s local landmarks and innovators who rocked the world. Adams’ takeaway handouts help bring the local history of rock and roll into your classroom.  The session will conclude with Cleveland area teachers spotlighting ways they teach with popular music in their classrooms. Autism Speaks: Rock ‘Til It Stops

Autism Speaks is hosting a one-night only concert to raise money for local and national research, education and outreach initiatives. The evening will include special musical performances by two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Stephen Stills and Cleveland’s own Michael Stanley, tours of the exhibits and delicious food and drinks. The event starts at 7 p.m.

From Songwriters to Soundmen: An Interview with John Gorman

Gorman will discuss his new book, The Buzzard: Inside the Glory Days of WMMS and Cleveland Rock Radio, and participate in a book signing following the interview. This event is free with a reservation and will take place in the Museum’s 4th Floor Theater. Please email or call 216.515.8426 to RSVP.

Rock Your World

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum partners with the Cleveland Municipal School District’s Arts Education Department in the presentation of its All City Arts Festival. This festival of music and art showcases the best work, in all the Arts disciplines. Performances include the district’s high school marching bands, the instrumental music programs, choral programs, dance, visual arts and the districts Theater Production program. The all-day festival takes place simultaneously in and outside the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. Latino Heritage Day

Noon – 4 p.m. – The Latino Heritage Festival celebrates the rich Hispanic culture and musical traditions. This colorful festival features performances by the best of Latin bands, including Los Boys Banda Dura and El Mostro Saboriqua y Su Grupo. Also featured are vocal groups and the dance ensemble Imagenes De Mexico. Come and enjoy the talents of local salsa dancers as well as an exhibition of regional artists. World Festival Day

Kuumba Cultural Arts Festival

Kuumba (koo-OOM-bah) means creativity. Kuumba is the sixth of the seven principles of Kwanzaa, which is a unique African American celebration with focus on the traditional African values of family, community responsibility, commerce, and self-improvement. Kwanzaa is neither political nor religious, and is not a substitute for Christmas. It is celebrated from December 26th to January 1st . Performances in theater arts, contemporary dance or ballet is usually the entertainment for the Kuumba festival. The Museum maintains an active schedule of events and exhibitions. The Hall of Fame Series brings inductees to small audiences for discussions about their lives, a period for questions from the audience and, often, live performances. In addition, lectures, films, panel discussions and performances are scheduled throughout the year. Several times a year the Museum mounts temporary exhibitions, including everything from block-buster shows to intimate photography displays.
