History

WowWee, an Optimal Group company (NASDAQ: OPMR), is a leading designer, developer, marketer and distributor of innovative hi-tech consumer robotic and entertainment products. The WowWee group of companies maintains operations in Hong Kong, La Jolla, California and Montreal, Quebec.

WowWee was founded in 1988 as an independent research and development and manufacturing company, focused on incorporating affordable, cutting-edge technologies into toys and other leisure-time products to provide enhanced entertainment value. In the early years, WowWee acted an OEM seller to retailers and to distributors. Among the products developed and manufactured by WowWee and marketed under other brand names were Power Ranger Power Gloves, Talking Tots dolls (Happiness Express) and Animal Plant Animaltronics (a Toys "R" Us private label). In the late 1990's, the company began to market products under the WowWee brand name, including Dinotronics RC T-Rex, Totally Extreme Skateboarder and Megabyte Dog. With the introduction of Robosapien in 2004, WowWee's focus shifted to the development of breakthrough consumer robotic and electronic products, revolutionizing the way we interact with entertainment robotic companions.

In 2007, WowWee continued to forge new categories in personal robotics and entertainment with products that are both imaginative and inventive from the award-winning FlyTech Dragonfly, the world's first radio-controlled flying insect to use flapping wings, which was named one of TIME Magazine's "Best Inventions of the Year", to WowWee Alive Elvis®, the only lifelike singing and talking bust of Elvis Presley. WowWee also unveiled Robopanda, a curious and playful robotic panda bear; Roboquad, a new robotic life-form; and FlyTech Barry B. Benson, the world's first radio-controlled flying bee to use flapping wings and the official flying bee from DreamWorks Animation's Bee Movie™, starring Jerry Seinfeld. Award-winning legacy products include: Robosapien, Roboraptor, and Roboreptile.

With its next generation of cutting edge innovations, consumers can expect to see products from four distinct divisions in 2008 -- WowWee Robotics, WowWee FlyTech, WowWee Alive, and WowWee Fun - that include technologically advanced innovations that walk, talk, crawl, fly and purr. The company is also increasing visibility of its portfolio of entertainment robots to consumers by employing smart, innovative marketing strategies. WowWee recently formed a strategic alliance with Evolution Robotics to launch a new category of breakthrough entertainment and functional robots, and robotic toys. Evolution Robotics' latest NorthStar® 2.0 technology, a smart navigation and positioning system that works like a micro-GPS system, will deliver robotic tracking capabilities that have never before been available to the robot and robotic toy mass market. This past year, products from WowWee Robotics were a featured McDonald's Happy Meal boys brand in North America. The program has since been rolled out to all McDonald's territories worldwide throughout the year and into 2008.
