It's Every Day

Savoie started taking group lessons at age 5, but he decided that it wasn’t what he wanted to do. Then a few years later, after seeing figure skaters jump on TV, he asked to try again. "So we went out to the rink for mini-lessons and learned how to skate backwards, just the two of us," said his father, Mike, to the Peoria Journal Star. "We were skating along, and he jumped and turned around in the air, and I said, 'If you're going to do that, you need to take lessons.'"

On it just being a sport: Once you've spent 16 years of your life doing something, it seems a little pointless to stake all of those minutes and hours on the ice on one event," he said to St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
